4runner Full Length Roof Rack

I will be buying a 3rd generation 4runner soon, and i would like to buy a roof rack for it. I have seen all of the Safari ones, but they do not come to the front of the 4runner. Are there any roof racks available that would cover the full length?

I think Yakima's and Thule's basket rack have extensions you can put in and they pretty much go the length of the roof.

BTW I have a new Thule basket for sale (without extension) if you are interested.

Well, the problem would be supporting the full length, since the stock rack only comes to the passenger door. Any idea's on how to support it?

Since it is a metal (aluminum) basket it provides its' own support. The metal basket clamps on to the Toyota crossbars.

There a a few pictures of these on this site. I would do a search and you can see if you like the fit of one of these racks.

Well, a normal length rack would be supported fine, but if i got extentions to make it the length of the roof, the front wouldnt be supported. The factory rack that it mounts to only comes halfway up the passenger door (i think.)

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you but it is a metal rack and does not need support the entire length, it will support itself as long as it is attached onto the two crossbars. Also the extension goes in the middle of the normal version. These racks don't need support all the way to the very ends.

I just put on a yakima megawarrior (52 x 48) on my 92 4Runner and it fits great for me - runs from the back (about 4 inches from the hatch when open), to about right past the drivers door - they make an extension, which will make it 74 x 48 and I can't imagine something larger than that on my 4Runner - maybe measure 74" and see how much it covers - the 48" just barely sticks out over the roof, but it looks pretty cool - remember the load limit of the roof rack, so the bigger the rack, the more stuff you might to put in it, but can't due to weight - just a though

You dont think if it was all the way to the front of the roof that it wouldnt put alot of stress on the back?

No I don't think so. I've seen oversized tires loaded onto these racks. But you really should try to even-out or center the weight anyway. I would say that really heavy stuff should be stored inside and try to put lighter, bulkier thinks in the rack.

I have this in the for sale section with the price and a generic picture. The problem is that it is pretty big and weighs a decent amount so I don't think shipping will work out. I was hoping someone local or within meeting distace would be interested.
