Hey guys I am still lookin into getting a 4r and parting with my f150. I want to find that perfect median between mpg and cool/fun/ lifted 4x4. I don't need to here get a Prius if you want mpg lol that won't stop me. My goal is to keep it around 15-17 mpg city 20-22 hwy. how many of y'all got close or any advice? My plan so far is
2006 v6 4x4
3 inch ome with toytec superflex in rear
285/70/17 or 18 tires
Sliders not sure which ones yet
Shrockworks front bumper
Budbuilt front skid
Spidertraxx 1.25"
Volat stage 2 cai
Flowmaster super 44 exhaust

What do you guys think an what is your experience with these products? What do you think my mpg will be? How could I get it higher without taking away what I have or sacrificing that much less? Thanks a lot guys

I'm in the V8 getting 10-20mpg lol highway is great stop an go drinks it. my averages mpg gauge sits at 15.2mpg weather thats right or not i couldnt say. i havent exactly reprogramed my computer for bigger tires.

I'm getting about 17 city / 22 highway right now but I'm totally stock. A lift with bigger tires is going to decrease your MPG. So is that heavy Shrockworks bumper.

All of those mods will greatly improve the performance of your vehicle but none will help your mileage. The big, heavy tires, sliders, bumper, and skid probably contribute several hundred pounds in weight over stock and do nothing to improve aerodynamics, the 33" tires especially. Intake and exhaust will probably give you a handful of hp but that's about it. The V6 is a great motor but pretty thirsty as well. Even bone stock 21mpg hand calc is as good as I could get on a long road trip on flat roads using cruise control. With my minor mods and relatively skinny tires I usually get 18 or 19 on the highway and 15-17 around town if I'm not goosing it all the time. With your mods I would subtract another 1 or 2 mpg from those numbers. Like I said, those are great mods, you'll just have to find out for yourself what kind of mpg you are comfy with for the performance.

Hmmm I know my dad has a 2006 v6 xsp package and his computer tells him he gets 19-20 and he had a steady foot but not the best and I heard others have the same thing with the v6 and they said subtract 2-3 from that number so that's why I asked because I have heard of guys on a 4x4 v8 awd and they get like 10 on 265's. I just don't want to get my runner and have it get worse than my truck! Lol I know I want a roof rack and a rear bumper but I can do without those for the time being and save some weight and aerodynamics. Anyone have luck with throttle body spacers or anything like that I read some other stories about em but there's one that's got a cash back warrenty for 30 bucks I might look at. They all seem kinda like bs tho but idk. Also if you guys don't mind post some pics or your cool runners I like seeing them and getting ideas and what not. Thanks!

I would guess that with the mods you listed, you'll be around 14-19 and only hit 19 if you have a feather-weighted foot.

I lost a great deal of MPG when I went to larger tires and I am VERY lucky to get 19 if the entire tank is highway miles and I take it really easy.

If you get a 4Runner just do all the regular maintenance stuff (Spark plugs, motor oil change, differential fluid change, etc) and then drive it for a couple of months keeping a good record of you gas mileage. Yes, the computer is usually about 1.5-2 mpg higher than if you hand calculate it. I use the website Fuelly to track mine because it's got a mobile version of the webpage that works nicely on my Iphone.

After you see what kind of mileage you're getting then decide what mods you want to do understanding that each one is probably going to lower your MPG a little. Also, your driving style is going to affect your mileage. Anything over about 75 on the highway really decreases your MPG.

Good luck getting that gas milage with the mods you listed. Just the sliders and the bumper are one of the heavier mods you can do, 33's also will not help...

I get about 12-13mpg city and about 17-19 hwy with all my stuff done

So I looked on a few websites that some guys listed and what not seems that's the 2006+ v6 deffenrtly have better mpg, the vast average for a 2006 v6 is 18.6 stock or very slightly modded. Do you guys really think with a cai and free flow exhaust it will go down 4 mpg city and highway?

Sorry man, the CAI and exhaust will make your truck sound good but are only good for a handful of hp at best, more likely they'll just make the throttle a little more responsive and that's it. Nothing can help the fact that wide, heavy tires and a couple hundred pounds of armor are going to have a large impact to the fuel economy. Gotta pay to play!!

Oh it's weird coming from the truck world to the suv world. Not thus this is the best example but on my truck when I threw on my cai and flowmasters and programmer I went up in mpg a noticeable difference. I am a 2005 f150 on 35/20/12.5 toyo mts on a 6 inch stage 2 procomp lift on e9ks and lots of other mods and I get about 12 city and highway lol mabye 13 highway

I have a 2005 v6 4x4

CBI Rear bumper, Jack, Spare(285), Jerry can (roughly about 350 pounds)
Perkins rack (100 pounds)
Rack Lights (wind Resistance)
Shrockworks sliders
3 inch OME lift with 285s

I GET 14.5-15 CITY. AVERAGE ABOUT 300 MILES PER TANK

it was all your canned tuned, no vehicle is going to gain MPG or measurable HP from CAI and flowmasters. dyno pulls have proven that its +/- 1hp at the wheels most of the time with mufflers. i also come from the "truck world"

Thanks javelin that's pretty close to what I'm looking at. So you think if I get a bit less weight and wind resistance I can go up 2 mpg? And about the cai and exhaust that's news to me! I have always been told it goes up cause what happens is when you can a cai it lower the temp of air goin in and colder air holds more oxygen which combusts better and for the exhaust it eliminates some back pressure letting the engine breathe easier. I wouldn't doubt that it doesn't help mpg tho, there is so much bs out there lol

CAI and exhausts crack me up, the marketing that goes into these things amazes me. The stock 4runner already has a CAI...it pulls the air from ouside the engine compartment inside the front right fender. The air temp going into the engine is ambient, how you get cooler than ambient air is beyond me. Exhausts that help engines breate...let's think about that. If you are driving your 4runner with a mind toward fuel economy, you will rarely see anything above 2500 rpm. Exhausts and intakes all make these claims of "better breathing" and throw out dyno numbers that show improvements at like 5500 rpm or something ridiculous like that. At those RPMs, an exhaust and higher flow intake will probably make a difference but your foot is on the floor and you no longer care about mpg. The V6 is nice and torquey down low just the way it is and al an exhaust and intake will do will lighten your wallet and make your truck sound good.

I have a roof rack, 4 inches of lift with suspension and body lift and I'm on 285/70r17's. I muster maybe 17 highway and 14 city and get 300 per tank like javelin said.
