8.1 Nav Override?
Tried T4RUSAF's trick of replacing the loading.kiwi file on my v8.1 disc with one from a v4.2 disc, but no joy - the override still doesn't work. However, I did notice that when I put in the 8.1 disc w/ the 4.2 loading file, the system did not reload like when I first put in the 8.1 disc (although the updated maps still worked fine). Furthermore, when I put the 4.2 disc back in the unit, it also did not force a system reload. My guess is that eventhough I put the old kiwi file on a new disc, it never loaded.
Anyone know how to force the Nav system to re-load from the DVD?

I have a hybrid disc as well and it works great (worked great that is, until I removed the nav to go aftermarket). The only downside was that the "I agree" buttons that went away with the newest software, are back with the hybrid disc.
I didn't make the disc, and I haven't tried to see what files are actually on it, but I'd have to say it's just something that goes along with it.
To get the hybrid disc to work, you must remove power from your nav unit (remove the fuses for 30 seconds or so), then power back up. Insert your hybrid disc and it will then load the files from the new disc.

With a hard boot after disconnecting power for a few minutes, the new disc combining the v4.2 loading.kiwi file w/ the balance of the v8.1 update works great on a Gen 4 system. The Nav override trick on the Menu/Volume works just as it always did - no hardware add-on's req'd. Just note that you'll need a DVD+R DL (dual layer) compatible DVD writer on your PC to make the copy as the map discs are around 7.3 GB.
Now how the heck did this thread get hijacked by the Nintendo crowd? We don't really have guys playing video games on their navs while driving - do we? If so, I'm all for an in-motion lock-out!

I've discovered an interesting quirk of the hybrid disc - the Find Location function only works for some of the geographic regions on the disc, but not all of them - I live in New England, and it works fine in that region, but not in other surrounding areas.
Anyone found the soulution to this problem?

I'm not sure if it's the same problem you're having.
I believe it's under 'Setup', did you change the search area back to the area where you're located? On my other Toyota after the nav lost power, it defaults to a different search area/region than where I'm located. So when I put in street addresses it doesn't come up with any results.
I guess I wasn't clear on the problem - when you try to switch to a diferent search area, the unit just hangs - you can't enter and address or point of interest. I'd say that about 1/2 of the search areas have the problem - the rest work fine.

Hey all, I was just browsing around and you all seemed to have answered a question of mine. I just need a little clarification. My buddy bought a 08 Sport, new, and I bought an 05 used, but we have the same Eclipse Nav unit. His Eclipse, I could look up places and routes while in motion. My unit never allowed me to. He never did anything to make his work that way. So now that I know there's an unlock for that, would it work on my 05? I only have one disk and that was from the dealer. I'm lost with all the kiwi files and versions. Is the unlock feature model or software specific?

I believe that the kiwi files are for the OEM JBL navigation units (made by Denso). I installed the Coastal Electronics Lock Pick 2 in my 2007 4Runner and now everything works while the vehicle is in motion. Hope that helps...
