4Runner or Tundra as "weekend play" toy?

Love my 4runner but there has to be better pure weekend toys out there. I like my 4runner since it is a reasonable balance between convenience and performance. Its much more convenient than my Jeep but still has great offroad performance. If i was looking for a pure weekend toy, i would go for something besides a 4runner. Don't take that the wrong way, 4runner people. I've driven one for 5-6 years of my life and love it!

I own both, my Tundra Crew Max has 29,000 miles my Trail Edition has 39,000.

Both are used for mostly hunting ,desert shooting ,surfing .


The Tundra motor with the TRD supercharger is a good starting point, the Runner motor sucks donkey balls.

"Sucking donkey balls" is really all that needs to be said . I like the SC Tundra idea with Icon stage 6. Maybe a platinum with 35's. A good starting point for sure! I love the 4Runner, but during the weekends when I want to play, will I hate not having 500 hp?

Have you considered the Tacoma? The Tundra is just too large to be a good "toy," in my opinion. I love my 4Runner, and I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.

Sounds like your ready to sas a tundra.
I own a new runner and newer tundra. I love the tundra for space, hauling ability and go juice when needed. It's pretty much stock on 35's and been more places than it should have been.

I love my runner, hate the power. But it seems to wheel ok and is smaller to fit tighter trails and parking spots at the mall..

Curious why no FJC?

I hate the suicide doors and prefer the traditional 4 door set up. The FJ is an awesome vehicle, but not for me.

Does it help - or does it matter - to consider the 4RUNNER is built in Japan and the Tundra built in Texas?

I currently have an '09 & '15 4R and an '11 Tundra. My guys in the dealership service department once told me, "...the 4RUNNER is screwed together differently..."

Whatever that's worth.
