I agree. Improved sound insulation material is one of the changes in the 09 Fit, hopefully it will be effective. That has been a sore spot with a lot of Hondas for a long time.Thai said:
I remember reading that the hybrid Honda was developing was targeted at a 200,000yen premium max over the gas only, which is around $2k. One problem with the hybrid is that it will most likely be mated with a CVT and personally I feel that the effective 5-speed manual is a big part of it's appeal. I also imagine that the battery system would take up some of the great cargo capacity of the Fit which is important for us to have.
There are a lot of guys on fitfreak getting 40+mpg highway.
btw- Is there a way to block a certain users posts from being viewed? Debbie Downer above is getting old.

Oh no, ES=WA, i think that you're proving to everyone on a daily basis why you were banned in the first place...i don't even have to lift a finger! 
I feel bad for the Commander forums that you were on while being banned from here...they must be throwing a party these days!
BTW, as for the Smart, the crumple zone in front and rear are the same...the strong steel shell is the same front and rear. Maybe, you need to read up on the Smart before posting a response. Thanks.

LOL, I was banned because you can't deal with being proven wrong. Everyone know that!
I've been a regular member of the Commander forum since its inception and have actively posted there for many years now. Actually, its' one of the few forums that YOU are not a member, LOL.
A Smart car driver's head is approximately 12 inches from the rear window. No crumple zone in the world is going to save that driver from a rear-end collision with an SUV, truck, or van.

You are so transparent, Thai. I can't believe you're still so upset that so many people spoke out against you. I only wish I could post some of the emails I got from other members who would not post on the forums, but I would never do that to them.

I also read the articles and safety information on the smart car and submitted a review yesterday from the NY Times in our Reviews Section. I must tell you though that even with uni body construction the chances of a major vessel damage from an impact are increased. Head injury predictors and trauma score are clearly related to one simple fact -the amount of metal, steel or other surface from your body to the thing which hits a person in an impact. There are things which are far worse than death in a crash as in a life long head injury.
That said, I think that this vehicle is being "sold" to the people as a solution to the manufactured crisis of oil and gas. Bush II has delivered the country to the oil companies. That was his job and he has done it well. (Political Comment button OFF).
Research is being skewed ro reflect test results in the car's favor. The picture from Even Steven demonstrates what we all sense in our gut. In addition, the review in the NY Times reveals troubling elements in this car's performance, transmission and ability to manage trouble quickly. From a passive and active standpoint, this vehicle is, in my cold opinion, a deathtrap.... or worse. (Rant button OFF)

We will see how it does in the real world...but from all the tests to date (e.g. particularly nasty crash simulated by a car magazine), the Smart has done fairly well. Granted, it ain't a M1 tank, but for it's size, it has managed crash well in these tests. Remember also, the Smart car is not marketed to highway people...it is mainly a city car from point A to B. Thus, it is not designed to be crashed at 70 mph, even though it did not do any worst than your average car at that speed.
Again, i am sure that the 4runner is safer than the Smart, but i would not toss the Smart under the semi too soon.

Roger that. I think the other issues brought up in the NY Times article were relevant as well.........and agree with you that the Honda's and Toyota's with a tad bigger size perform and may outperform this ditzy wonder
All week long I drive a work truck. On Chicago highways, if your not doing a least 10mph over the speed limit you will get run over. Not by just car, but by big rigs. I would not feel safe in that smart car on my highways w/ big rigs blowing by me at 80mph and cutting you off. Runnning around town to the stores fine, everyday highway driving, NO WAY!!!
Speed limits here are 55mph. 65 in the outlining areas. So some idiot will take one on the highway. Trucks won't see them. someone will get hurt. It's like those scooter people riding down the road 5mph under the speed limit. You'll have some people in a hurry trying to get around them. Or they willl cause traffic.Thai said:
