I think that the focus is a legitimate one as many people are trying to save money by looking at and hopefully analyzing new and potentially smaller cars. I think it's a natural outgrowth.....and I agree that we would be better off with out the personal invectives.......for my part I would like to keep it that way as I think that this is potentially useful thread as we all try to deal with the gas price escalation.

Well, if Honda manages to keep the '09 Fit as agile as the current Fit (but quieter and more comfy), then it will be a hell of a ride! The current Fit can do slalom with the best sports car in the world! I think it's slalom is like 71-72 mph, which is Corvette ZO6, Porsche, etc. territory.
 
Actually it's 700ft slalom speed done in a few mags is right around 67mph which is still very good but let's not make it out to be beating ZO6s. :bash:

Yes I read your post. You said, it does 75 mph(actualy does 90mph), and YOU DIDN'T THINK IT IS MEANT FOR HIGHWAY USE. Sorry if I miss understood. Then you said, idiots do idiotic things. So just because it might not be meant for highway use. Doesn't mean people are not going to do it. Now go ahead and tear into me.

Yeah, stupid people will do stupid things. You see people take their big SUVs to the racetrack...you see people take their cars off-road. We should discuss cars and their intended purpose, not the extremes of human behavior. :)

The Smart is what it is...it is a golf cart on steroids for city use. And as such, it is a fairly safe car.

I was wondering the same thing :D But since the topic has now officially drifted to the Smart I just wanted to add that I love the Smart cuz finally there's a car on the road that's more wimpy than my Spyder :D

My lease is up in feb 09 & I'll have 60+ on it (v8) it will still be 25k miles under my lease . Maybe I should dump it for a used 08/09. I really don't want to buy anything new anymore . I'll have to check blue book when the time comes closer. Maybe by that time the gas will be back down to $1.00 per gallon.....

As a motorcyclist I personally find the jabs at the smart car for being unsafe as a little asinine. If you get hit in the rear by a semi running at full clip in a T4R or any passenger car you are dead.

It seems like a great little car for someone living in the city or for hoping around the suburbs without having to make the sacrifices of riding a motorcycle. There is a reason why these cars have been all over the place in Europe the last several years.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Big SUV's are actually less safe than small cars as big SUV's tip over. I came accross a Hummer 2 that got into an accident with a big rig. Half the vehicle was gone. It is hard to stay fastened into your seatbelt when the side of vehicle is gone. Two dead.

I ride my motorcycles daily. You are going to die no matter what you ride. Might as while enjoy life while you are here/
 
wow-my 06 with 48k miles, 2wd sr5 cloth v6 is falling in value. in may, carmax offered $16k, 2 weeks ago, $14k. stevied-you did well, im surprised the toyota dealership gave you that much.
 
Don't go by carmax. Use what the courts and dealerships use for determining vehicle value, KBB or NADA. The rest don't matter and are subject to fluctuations based on irrelevant data or the latest trends.
 
I've found that CarMax tends to be pretty fair. KBB is usually low on trade-ins, but Edmunds is high. Reality is somewhere between KBB and Edmunds.

The market is really screwed up right now because the hype has made the prices drop, but nobody is really sure how far. I'm sure that if you were to try to trade in today, each dealer you try to work with would give you a different trade-in value. It would become a matter of finding the dealer who's willing to give you the most for it.

Mine was fully loaded with leather nav etc. Needed new tires tho and had some damage to the pass front door.

I was content to get out what I owed. Values on the SUVs were dropping like a stone around here.
