4runner safe?

Oops, momentary break down in my thought patterns. Skid, stability, hey at least they both started with the letter "S".Toyota calls it Vehicle Stability Control, but it's all the sameeace:

OMG, whoever was driving that Dodge is an IDIOT and needs to have their license taken away. Show your parents how that small safe car went into flames immediately on impact and the 4runner probably drove away (unless that was his tire flying throught the screen).

I would like to point out that the "safe little car" that barely get grazed is the only one that catches on fire hahaha.Show them this......
I'm sorry but I don't know who the hell would put "Safe" and "Little Car" int the same sentence. I can count on one hand how many times ive ever driven a car and everytime i feel like someones gonna monster truck rally over me.

4runner camparisons.
I have 2000 4runner, my wife has a Celica, which I drive daily. Everytime I get on the highway with Celica, I can't see ahead of me because of the traffic ahead blocking my view, the 4runner's higher view makes me more comfortable. The car sits so low, I feel I would be flatten if anything would happen. More steel surrounding me in the 4runner is reassuring. And a side note, I drove an Explorer (one of the rollover vintages) I did passing maneuver and scared myself half to death the way it leaned, something I was very confident my 4runner would handle with ease. Toyota engineered the 4runner right.

mine leans, the the exploder could have just had bad shocks like i do.

They score very well. My only gripe is that it does not handle well in the rain. I spun out the other day on a freeway onramp and ended up in the ivy. It was really embarrassing considering that I have driven muscle cars with twice the horsepower and three times the torque and never spun them out even when I was messing around. I think it is the high center of gravity, once it starts to spin it just keeps going. Plus I didn't want to over-correct and end up in the freeway so I didn't fight it to much.
Keep in mind also that it doesn't have to be your bad driving that causes an accident. If someone clips you while changing lanes on the freeway it would be a lot easier to flip in a tall vehicle like the runner.

that sounds more like a tire problem. I live in CO and my 4runner has never even spun out in the snow, and mine's supercharged.
It was incredible but it never stops. I leave again in January.

The 4runner is definitely a safe vehicle. I've been in 2 accidents with mine and neither one required I take a trip to the hospital. Plus the thing still runs like a champ! You really can't beat a body on frame design for safety. Unibodies are designed to absorb impacts, but they can only absorb so much before the energy has to transfer to you. A higher center of gravity can be an advantage to the smart driver. You can't take a turn as fast, but you get to see over traffic as an early warning and road hazards can be straddled instead of requiring an avoidance maneuver like a car. IMO the multimode 4WD is one of the best safety features on my 4Runner. Small cars don't have 4WD and few offer AWD for reasonable prices. The 4Runner is a good choice all around. I think you could compile a list of pros and cons and convince them to decide in your favor. Good Luck!

i took this corner going about 75(limit for this particular corner was 35:lol
. i understered a little bit and the vsc kicked in, but i didnt feal like anny of the whelles were airborne(due in part to the sway bars mentoned earler)
i have wanted a 4runner since i was 13. 3 years later i finaly got what i wanted and i am more than pleased. not to say that i wouldnt drive some "little safe car", i just wouldnt like it. as a fellow 16 year old kid, i would say go for youe dream, but if you get some sedan, just drive it and when you turn 18 buy a 4runner.
one of my older friends wanted a subaru wrx since he was born. he bought 3 cars and didnt like them untill he finaly got a wrx and actualy liked driving.

dont pay people to install your lift do it yourself you puss!
dont get drunk and paint your truck.
