4runner shocks with LC 8 wraps?

I have a set of LC 8 wraps on the way (well, one LC 8 wrap and a 7.5 wrap), so I ordered the Bilstein 5125 for a 4runner from ToyTec (these ones). After doing some more research, it looks like a lot of people switch over to LC shocks when they do 8 wraps, so I was wondering if the 5125's I ordered for a 4runner were the wrong ones, and if I should have ordered something else?

I figure once you add up the weight from my rear bumper, the 35 hanging off it, the cargo box/sleeping platform I'm about to build, plus tools and a spare cv, all that weight should put the 8 wraps at around 3" of lift, maybe a little more, and then the Bilsteins should be close to the right length, but I could be wrong?

Also, does anyone know what length the Bilstein 5125 that ToyTec sells for the 4runner are? I know I should have figured all of this out before I ordered them, but I wanted to take advantage of the 10% off sale lol.

No idea about the length. But I have billies with a similar amount of weight in the rear with 9 wraps (they sit about 3.5" lift) and they are fine. I honestly don't know why people switch if they have weight in the back. With no weight they can be a little jumpy and the LC shocks calm that down. But with weight I think they are fine. Been running them for a year and no complaints.

If you are around 3" they are the right length.

That's what I needed to hear. If you're at 3.5" with the 9 wraps and running the same shocks, I don't think I'll have any problems with the 8 wraps. I might even need to upgrade to the 9 wraps if it sags too much with all the weight on there lol.

I mean I guess if you want to get technical I have the Sonoran Steel versions but they're the same length. [MENTION=78892]FR4R[/MENTION] has the ones your talking about though. And that's what I had to do. I had plans to swap the front to Toytec Eibachs and grab 3-3.5 inches of lift and my 7 wraps in the rear were not going to cut it with all the rake. I coulda gone 8 but a set of 9s showed up for cheapish and they've been great so far!

Well luckily, my order still hadn't shipped out, so I called ToyTec and had them change my order to the Bilstein long travels that are the add-ons with the Superflex coils. I figure I should be good no matter what with those ones. Thanks for all the help guys!

Good to hear that you got it all fixed up. With long travels you should be able to get it all out of those super flex coils. Looking forward to seeing them on your rig

You wont know what lift you get till you install those 8 wraps but you still want the long travel shocks. It depends on how saggy the spring was on the doner vehicle. My new 7 wraps needed 4" lift and when they settled around 3.5" lift. Some have gotten 4-4.5" lift with 8 wraps.

Yeah I figure with my weight that I already have in the back, the most I'll be looking at is probably going to be around 4", and that will come down when I get my cargo box/sleeping platform. But yeah you're definitely right, I won't know for sure until I get them on.

I see you're running LC shocks. Any clue what the extended length of them is?

Actually I dont know, I might beable to look it up, its the same part# Steve uses in the SS kit, cant remember off the top of my head.

I did some digging. Looks like the part # for the LC Tokico Blacks is: 48531-69417

And I found this thread, which seems to suggest the extended length is around 23". Once my Bilsteins come in, I'll see if I can figure out an actual part # on them and see what they're length is. Should be longer than the ones I had first ordered since these are specifically for the Superflex coils, which are the tallest coils ToyTec sells for the 3rd gen.

Yes 23" sounds correctly. Remember to look up the max compressed length also. That way you can test and make sure you dont over compress. The LC shock with 7 wraps can over compress without adding a lowered bump stop which blows out the shock and makes it ride like crap. Almost every person I know that says there rear end kicks out a lot with LC shocks dont have lowered bump stops and the first time they fully flex it blows them out.

Yeah I plan on doing what NateMob did and use the superbumps from Wheelers along with extended brackets. I would do the SS bump stop package, but $160 is just too much for me to pay for bump stops right now.

Believe me it killed me buying those things, I made my own but they would rotate on my and I didnt like the way they looked so I broke down and bought them from him. I love the way they feel. Before it would slam and hit real hard, now its real smooth when the axle bottoms out.

Bigfishallday did a great post about the LC shocks. He had both those and bilsteins I think. Most people have said with a lot of weight the bilsteins can be a bit bouncy and they have found that the LC shocks are a bit stiffer to help even it out.

Yeah I saw that thread. I figured I'd try out the Bilstein's that ToyTec recommends for the Superflex coils first, as I don't have too much weight over the rear right now, just a bumper and the spare. If it starts to get bouncy when I add the cargo box/tools, I'll think about going to LC shocks. Hopefully I'll get lucky and these Bilsteins will be fine for me though lol.

Compressed 14.91"
Valving 128/105

Looks like they have right around the same extended length, if not a little more, than the LC Tokico blacks.

Just put those same shocks on yesterday with my LX 8-wraps. They ride nice, just a tad stiff.

You did the F4-BE5-E703-H0 billies? Did you extend the bump stops? And about how much lift did you end up gaining?

Yes those are the shocks. I was in Denver yesterday and pretty much bought them on an impulse. I had the 8-wraps in already with the 5125s Toytec sells. With OME 890s and 285s I was at 38.5" ground to fender, now its 40.5", so somewhere between 4.5" and 5" of lift.

I will be extending the bumpstops and putting on a longer rear brakeline before I get it out on the trails.
