4Runner Subculture?

Wow... I feel like I've run across some kind of subculture, here on this forum.

We bought the 4Runner to provide good, reliable, comfortable transportation, and tow a small travel trailer. I came here to this forum to ask a few questions about towing and headlights.

What did I get? Of COURSE I got answers to my questions and some advice. In addition, I've gotten private messages and e-mails with clarifications, and even an invitation or two to hit some trails.

But I've noticed something that I never expected... There seems to be so much interest, pride, excitement and love for the 4Runner. Those that post here are not just enthusiastic about their cars, but they dress them up, talk about them, take them places other than just the freeway. Some trade in their old 4Runners to buy... new 4Runners.

Interest, pride, excitement and love.

I'm oh so hoping that we have the good fortune and reliabiltiy that most of you have had.

This is so very true.
That is also why I laugh my Butt off when I read posts on other automotive forums about how Toyotas have "no soul" and are "boring appliances".
People that post thoughts like that just do not have a clue. Really funny how those posts seen to come from people who own vehicles that have "soul",
are also not the most reliable vehicles out there and cost significantly more to repair/maintain.

eleven days... ELEVEN DAYS

Our car is 11 days old, and today we got our first shopping-cart-in-the-front/side-of-the-car scratches.

We've always been parking lot paranoid... up to and including our 1993 S-10 that I sold today.

If people can shop with the cart, then push that cart all the way out to the car, WHY oh WHY is their time suddenly so valuable that they can't secure the same cart that they've walked around with for the last 45 minutes?

These are probably the same people who would complain if a cart hit THEIR car.

Sooo true.....and exactly why we make a point to park way out where there are no other cars. It always amazes me to watch people drive around and around to get a parking spot that is 5' from their destination...geeze...get a little exercise people!

When you see the typical Toyota owner what you see is a person who couldn't care about anybody but them self, and who thinks they're the smartest person on the block. Actually if they did any research before they decided to buy, they would find out that Toyota quality isn't all that the common belief thinks it is. Toyota isn't friendly to the environment. Toyota has caused millions of Americans to loose their jobs, and the paltry few that Toyota hires in this country are just the low level grunts. All of the high paying jobs and all of the profits go to Japan.
I can't understand how a true American can drive down the street in a Toyota or Lexus without being embarrassed.
I would be completely ashamed of myself if I had to drive around in that Jap crap!
