4Runner TE / Second Battery / Parts

I ordered the solenoid and battery monitor from Equipt today and have that coming.

Now I am looking for a battery tray. I want to add a second battery to my 2014 TE 4Runner. This battery will be for fridge and other accessories. I'm heading toward the Die Hard Platinum, that seems to be the consensus based on my reading.

So I am looking for battery tray recommendations for a 2014 4Runner TE.

I am also looking for a recommendations for quality installer here in the SF bay area. I live in Santa Cruz so I am in between SF and Monterey and am prepared to travel for solid install.

In 2013 ,they put that smog pump where most of us put the second battery tray prior to then. So the only way I know of ,is behind the air intake.Seems like it would be a pain to relocate it the smog pump and plumbing.
Larry at Dirty Parts is often recommended with one of the best all in one kits for that location by some of the FJ guys I know.Not sure if he would sell just the tray or not but can't hurt to call him and ask. ..... Dirty Parts

This works for the 2013+ as a simple plug-n-play. It is not cheap though. However, it does preserve the space so you can still have an air compressor under the hood. KODIAK INDUSTRIES INC.. They are not far in Gilroy.

I second bimrunner. It's expensive because they "require" you to use the Odyssey batteries and will not ship out a kit. I like the fact that it uses a commonly found solenoid should you need to replace it.

I would highly recommend you reach out to Shrockworks and ask them about their 2nd battery tray.
 
I bought the Luna National stuff sans the wires so I can't use the full Dirty Products kit. I decided against the Kodiak solution after originally planning to go with them, simply because I didn't want to be tied to a pair of batteries of the same size for running all the computers and chargers and fridge.

I can't find any photos or installs of people adding a second battery in the rear engine compartment on the passenger side on a 2014 4Runner TE. Toyota seem to have made a few changes under the hood between the 2013 and 2014.

While I am waiting to figure out the battery tray I want to run cables for a Hella Socket for the National Luna Fridge, and 1 Blue Sea Dual USB, and a Blue Sea Cig Lighter socket all on the drivers side rear wheel well. I am going to run these cables to a Blue Sea fuse box that may or may not be connected to the main battery for my end of year trip.

I have advice that says to run 10 gauge for the fridge. But for the USB socket and Cig lighter, I am not sure what cable to run, or If I should do a single run for the USB and another for the Cig. Socket or some how try and combine them.

I am new to running wires and pulling apart my new vehicles.

Regarding your wire gauge selection, you have to consider how much draw the socket will need. For a fridge, I'd go 10 minimum. I have 8 (a bit overkill but hey). For the other sockets, if you might use them for heavy draw, go 10. They can share if you don't plan to load it up heavy. If you do, a single line each is better. You are going to have fun stuffing the wires in loom!

As far as 2x same size batteries of the Kodiak solution... I've never had a problem and that is running a fridge, lights, winch, compressor... each battery is actually about 1.5 from stock per Kodiak. No problem if you want to go another route, just trying to help. I've had mine for over a year and have run my fridge without starting the rig for up to 4 days and not a hesitation from the starter.

The rear of the passenger side engine bay is really going to probably mean you move a few thing around a bit. Shouldn't be too hard, but after you mount the aux fuse box, you probably won't get much else mounted under your hood. Gets tight fast.
