I know Houston area has one coming in that's not spoken for. Not sure when it arrives, but as you already know, they go quick. Dealing with the sales folks has been an asswhip. And unfortunately at this time of year, you can't even put in a new order for a rig.
So I've been talking to a Jeep dealer. The Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk looks kinda neat and it has more power on the road. Pretty tempting:
I am a 50% Jeep, 50% Toyota guy. With 4x4's, I have had 5 Jeeps and 4 Toyotas going back to the '70's so a somewhat even bias on my part between the two.
The WK2 is nicer, rides better, more power, more technology and IFS. The T4R will outlast the WK2 two fold due to build quality and have twice the resale value in 5 years. Jeeps are nicer but don't hold up over time well like a Toyota.
That, and one ride with the Trailhawk's air suspension on the offroad 2 mode and you will want to get out of it...it is total crap the higher you raise it.
To the OP (sorry for the derail):
I would rather have the Pro because it is a nice, full package that unless you get really serious, will perform and go anywhere most folks would dare to take it. However, it is hard to find and the cost is a problem with them selling over MSRP, of which I would never pay. Personally I would not modify a Pro much if at all and I modify everything (I have not owned a 4wd that didn't get a lift kit).
A TRD Premium will do everything a Pro would do (except for resale value) and you could modify it as you need when you need it. It is the smarter choice unless you can get a good deal on a Pro but that does not appear to be possible these days.
I will be picking up a new TR4 this spring and for the heck of it, will shoot for a Pro first knowing it isn't going to happen. Then, I will return to reality and pick up a TRD and my tools.
