Wow, interesting. Thanks for the back story. I suppose what kind of deal you get is based more on the demand depending on the area you live in. I'm in the D.C. metro area,...northern VA. All the dealers I've talked to around here are not dealing below MSRP. They may have done in earlier on but I think that's done. They know when they're getting them and they know they can sell them very quickly. I had to put a deposit down just to hold it. Even tried going through the USAA buying program where they usually honor the "true car savings" or whatever. No dice. They told me,..."yeah, we're not gonna honor that for the TRD Pro's". I actually tried calling two Maryland dealers and they said they can't even get them in -- I guess NOVA is sucking them all in.
If you're trading in your current T4R, you could try taking the angle of getting more than normal for your trade. It's really a zero sum game, but for some reason they want to be able to show mother Toyota that the TRDP's sold for MSRP. Dealer told me that. Could be bull, but I think not. The white TRDP I looked at was in the sticks on the border of VT in a small town. It was special ordered then not taken. They actually would sell me the car at $39,700 down from $42,285 MSRP, but if I wanted to trade my LC, they were giving me bottom dollar because they can't move it at their little dealership. Instead I went with the other dealer (Boston burbs) who "sold it at MSRP" but gave me more than KBB trade-in on my LC to balance it out. Sorry for the long-winded response, but maybe it'll help you out.
