4runner TRD Pro

New here, just ordered a quicksand from the dealer I do I.T. work for on Monday 3/28, he told me it should be here in six weeks.....We have a very good working relationship and he knows I know the business, it may be Toyota misleading the dealers a bit on these lead times. When he special orders a Prius from Japan and tells the customer 6 weeks, it's there in 6 weeks.

Either way I am very excited to get my first 4runner and would settle for nothing less than a very rare version as I seem to have a thing for that.

Previous vehicles:
2002 SVT F-150 Lightning (first owner, still have it)
2006 WRX Limited white wagon (sold)
2007 Forester XT Sports in rally blue (selling)

Looking forward to participating here more when it arrives.
NOT looking forward to daily driving a 400hp pickup truck for the next couple months in the rainy season in NJ.......:pout:

I'm in Chicago and I've got a 2016 TRD Pro with about 1400 miles on it. I've only been averaging about 13.5mpg, which is way lower that 17 it's rated for. I don't have a particularly lead foot and I haven't been hauling anything. Checked the tire pressure and they seem to be right at manufacturer sticker of 32psi. How have other people's experiences been?

When both of my 4Runners were new they read really low. After a few thousand miles, though, it was fine. My TRDP is around 17 now and my former LE was around 20.

Pics of the Lightning and that forester?!?!?

I like the cement color. Like mentioned I'd black out the handles, hood scoop, and mirrors as well as tint the windows. Then it would look even better.

I think I still like the Magnetic Gray better. I may be a little biased though lol.

It all depends on how you drive and the terrain. If you have a heavy foot then you won't beat EPA standards. Geography also plays a big part. Currently I live in a hilly part of Alabama and when driving city I get maybe 15mpg. When I was living in Miami which was very flat I was getting 17mpg city. Hwy I avg about 20mpg. This is with C-rated AT tires. I have no doubts that if I had HT tires and lived in a flat area I'd be getting EPA numbers.

I've had my TEP since early January and have not yet hit 2000 miles. The best tank I've averaged was 15 mpg. It is getting better though. The first few were at 13 mpg. I ran one tank of 93 octane and it made no difference. The truck runs fine on 87. Oddly, the truck seems to get better gas mileage the harder I drive it.

So last night I rotated the tires and installed Airlift 1000 rear towing bags. I used the kit everyone recommends for the 5th gen 4Runner. (Which might be short for the PRO?)

Either way I noticed the rear drivers side shock had some oil/grease on top of it and the passenger side was clean. Anyone think this might be leaking?

Man, your garage is cool. Love the lift. :thumb3:

I tried to install my lift this week but the most interior bolt on the upper shock mount is a serious ***** to get to. There's no way I could get it off, much less get it torques back to specs after the spacer install. I'm going to have to have it installed when I get my 295s installed. Aaaaaaand I figured out I have to drop my bumper to get my RCI skid to mount up. Sucks. All I got done was my 2" Bora spacer install and I got the skid painted.

Looks like the shock is leaking from the fitting for the external reservoir, maybe it wasn't tightened down right or has a bad o-ring.

I think the biggest news from NY is that all Toyota vehicles will have Automatic Emergency Braking a lot sooner than most people expected (2018). I wonder what kind of implications this will have for our 4Runners. For the sake of future owners, I hope this system can be disabled via a cabin switch.

I read an article specifically stating auto-braking would not apply to the 4runner.

i have a gut who has a used boss toytec kit with about 10k miles on it and upper control arms for $900. I was debating this kit and ordering the toytec kit for the pros. Not sure which would be a better route........

FWIW I didn't torque the top of the rear shocks but I made sure it was tightened properly. Definitely no way to get a torque wrench in there but I did get a ratcheting wrench in with minimal bending.
