4runner TRD Pro

Sorry about going OT again, however I've been trying to find an inexpensive Hitch Link in case a recovery is necessary.

No matter how I try to word it, a Google search provides nothing but the Factor 55 product Intruder mentioned, along with full tow hitch kits, Alfred Hitchcock, Will Smith's movie Hitch, and lots of sites with advise how to hitchhike.

I'd appreciate any help or suggestions.

You sux at the interwebz :tape:

On the Toyota website they added a new picture of the tundra front shock.

It has a reservoir compared to the 4runner.

My questions are the tundra, tacoma and 4runner suspension basically the same as previous years? Would the tundra shocks fit on the 4runner?

Wow, so the FJ is gone, the Big-3 have pulled all their mid sized BOF vehicles and the GX is being canned in one more model year.

I cannot imagine Toyota keeping the 4Runner past 2016 either. Considering 2 of the 3 150 based SUV are out the door. Guess we better star preparing for it now, going to need to start T-Highlander.org so when we all switch to cars, we have a place to go....

As long as BOF mid sizers remain in other markets (Land Cruiser Prado), we have a chance.

I just assume we'd mostly all go buy 4 door Tacoma's if they kill the 4runner. Slap a topper on back and endlessly complain about how much better the 4runner was on their forum.

Haha

That's exactly what I would do, and still might. We will see come November. Might have to start a new forum though. I don't think I'm ready for TacomaWorld nor them me.

If the 4runner is not a BOF next generation than I will most likely jump ship and get a tacoma 4 door, but I hope it doesn't have to go that way. I like the quality of the 4runner better than the tacoma. Plus tacoma is little too long for me even with the short bed.

You can drive the Taco...I'll be in a Colorado Z71 Diesel

I think you are correct. The platform itself will live a long life because not having it is simply not an option around the world.

The question is always the North American market and if Toyota can successfully navigate .gov regulations while still maintaining respectable sales numbers.

The FJ thing still surprises me as I thought the main guts were made on our assembly line with just the body skin being outsourced. However with it gone and the GX going the 4R remains the only game left for Toyota in the mid priced field.

I find it facinating - I'm hoping it actually means an expansion of the 4Runner line filling voids left by the two vehicles.

-V8 Limiteds
-Ruggedized Trails (beyond TRD Pro)

Though is more likely they're cutting down on specialization in their product line.

:withstupid:
i'm hoping to order the trd springs and bilstein shocks from the trd pro 4runner and throw them in my TE.

you guys think it'll be possible to order the parts from dealers down the road? also lookin to get my hands on those wheels

Good call. I'm interested in that, plus the Exterior body changs & TRD skid plate. Hopefully Toyota will allow for ordering the parts al la carte.

If you don't mind messing with skids/ sliders/ tires/ suspension, you might want to just buy and TE and add that stuff. Either way, you'll have a capable SUV thats a lot more comfortable (but a little less capable) than your brother's JK.

So there is my question--- Buy a Trail and modify it a little the way I want or buy the TRD Pro. If I buy the Pro and want to change things, will I be throwing away some of those expensive Pro parts? Will I downgrade the "package" by adding aftermarket parts that might work better on a Trail?

Example - I get the Pro, and want to add a few more inches of lift, bigger wheels and tires. How much of that Pro suspension stays, or am I replacing those expensive shocks and springs and actually lessening the capability? Am I replacing one lift kit with another (and paying twice)?

Is the Pro just a Trail with pretty paint and new shocks? Doesn't seem to be much out there directly comparing a Trail and Pro item to item (yet). Or is it genuinely a fourth, unique model?

So, I am leaning towards a Trail, add a little lift and quality parts (maybe TRD ala carte parts), and end up with my own "Pro" without the looks. But I do like the Pro looks...

This is just my personal opinion...but if I were to buy a TRD pro model, I would not touch a damn thing on it (except tires, if they end up coming with crapola dunlops, lol). Not only would you be messing with your resale value, you pretty much defeat the purpose of buying this special edition model if you're going to replace all the "special" parts on it with aftermarket ones.

Think long and hard about this, if you plan to tinker with it, just get a regular trail and mod to your hearts content :)

It depends on what you add exactly. If you add something like Icons, Kings, Radflo, etc. then you'll have more capable components that aren't covered by your warranty. You don't want to put bigger wheels on - keep the stock wheels and just put bigger tires on them. If you're going to modify the suspension just get a regular TE or SR5 instead.
