4runner TRD Pro

The sales manager at the dealer i am working with reserved me one. He indicated that they are being allocated to the dealerships. They are the largest 4runner dealer in the regoin he expects to get two.

Good luck trying to get one of the Pro 4runners. They are going to be very limited amounts of them made. I think the purpose of the TRD pro 4runner is to get publicity in the magazine about the 4runner. All the car magazines have had articles about the Pro 4runner. Without the Pro the 4runner name would not even had been mentioned. I was just reading in the new Motor Trend magazine the new POS Jeep Cherokee has sold 80k units through June and is set to sell 160k units for the year. This does not even count the Grand Cherokee sales and Wranglers that they sell faster than they can make them. There has also been 4runner ads on TV for the first time in years. I have to wonder how long Toyota will keep making the 4runner with only about 50k sales a year. Toyota will probably turn the 4runner into a cross over like the Pathfinder. Pathfinder sales soared when they did that. That is why I bought my 4runner now while I could.

My dealer took a check. I was told that at the start every dealership will start of with 1 and then others could be ordered. The white and black are supposedly coming out first and then the Inferno Red sometime after the first of the year.

Historically, the Jeep products, namely it's GC, have always outsold the 4Runners by more than double here in the states. No matter, on an international scale with the 4Runner/Prado, I think things look a bit different.

Anyways, there will always be those that purchase for durability and longevity and perhaps it's just my eyes are trained to do so, but I see a helluvalot more 4Runners from earlier years on the road than I ever do Grand Cherokees from the same era. The 4Runner customer is a pretty loyal bunch, just like the Jeep buyer, just for different reasons. I think the Pro and the commercials are just attempts to expand upon that base rather than a last ditch effort to retain what they have always had.

I doubt Toyota will confuse the Highlander customer by making a politically correct 4Runner. And the Pathfinder is easily beaten by Highlander sales, even in it's new unibody form. I think 50-80k units of 4Runners being sold each year is a significant cut of the pie, especially when you consider what the 4Runner is. Kinda like the old Porsche motto: "It's not something for everyone, but it's everything to someone."

I think the $41,995 (including destination) is what was expected. Interesting theses look like they are either on the lots or coming any day. All appear to be white and no other options.

I didn't see anything about it in this thread but, can the pro be lifted with the existing hardware? It looks like it has Bilstein coil overs, I wonder if you could lift the pro 3" with the factory coil overs or would still have to rip it out and put in a Icon or other coil over?

Not yet, but believe I'm on track for my black one mid September if all goes well. The wait is tough! Almost pulled the trigger a couple times on a 14 TEP in the process. I just hope the wait is worth it and I'm not disappointed. I've been waiting ever since they were first announced and especially hard as I've been truckless since May. Mostly let down about the lack of KDSS, so I just hope that the ride is something I fall in love with. I do live in the desert and would put it to good use, but wanted KDSS for a long time and now am coping with not having it. We'll see!

Was wondering the same thing here. IF I can further adjust the suspension, all will be good. Don't want a massive lift, but would like a tad more up front and don't really like the "Squat" in the back. I know why they have it setup this way but prefer a more level appearance.

I put a down payment on a white one on July 22nd for $500 off MSRP (not much room to negotiate with this one). At that time they "preferenced" it with their regional distributor as that is all they could do.

Just got a call from them today saying that they have good news and that it will be ordered for me on Monday. They said it will take a couple weeks, but will then have it on their allocation and will be able to tell me the VIN, all equipment included, and date they will have it on their lot for me to pick up.

I will update once I have more info, but so far so good!

I talked with TRD guys in Ouray CO while at the FJ Summit and they had two 4Runner there with them. One was a black TRD Pro and the other was a gray Trail Edition. They were telling me that the gray Trail Edition was set up with the exact suspension height adjustment that we can expect to see of the TRD Pro 4Runner off the dealer lots. It was a bit lower in the front than most of us have seen in photos and in person with regards to the TRD Pro. It sat very level and had a pretty good stance.

That said, I am with you and will want a full 3 inches of lift on the TRD Pro and I talked with the TRD guys about this as well. They recommended swapping the springs from and rear to achieve the desired height and said that they personally would leave the Bilsteins on the truck. There are no adjustments on the TRD Pro suspension that would allow you to achieve any more height like that which an adjustable coilover would allow.

Wish I could've seen what you witnessed in CO. Might have made me go TEP/KDSS and aftermarket. I'm sort of committed now to the TRD route, but admittedly a little nervous if I'm doing the right thing. I wanted at least a 2" lift with the possibility of 285's and I'm a bit bothered with the skinny 7" TRD wheel width even though I like the design. Why Toyota has done a 7" on this type of vehicle is puzzling to me. If I'm changing springs or perhaps even more on a TRD, it leaves me questioning my choice of the TRD in the first place. I seriously hope to be wrong here and that I end up loving it. Just wish Toyota would've gone all out on the TRD and made it REALLY aggressive! Until I see & drive it, it still seems like a fairly conservative approach to a vehicle with the badge "Toyota Racing Development". Please prove me wrong Toyota...

In the last stages of installing my Toytec lift with 5100s.

I thought about trading for the Pro, but what's the point once I get my truck finished?

Yeah, but it won't have the TRD Pro badges, and shifter, and floor mats! You clearly haven't considered all the Pro awesomeness...

Right there with ya... I am still pretty excited about this thing. The way I look at it, I am going to nearly completely redo anything I get anyway so TE or TRD Pro is going to be the same amount of work. I also can't get the Inferno Red on anything else, so that makes it worth it. Plus there is the floor mats of course haha.

Cypher did you take any pictures of the black one?

Negative. I was out of battery in the camera each evening. I will say it looked pretty kick ass. I will keep an eye out for a photo on the FJ Cruiser forums as it was a big hit at the event and there will more than likely be a few photos of it floating around.
