4runner TRD Pro

Just got a text my my sales guy. Black and white will be hitting dealers first. Inferno won't be to dealers before November. Ugh. An extra month to wait now. Oh well....

I'm going to go on record and guess some will talk about doing it and nobody will actually do it.

Considering that there is an ECU specifically for the KDSS, I'm going to say you are correct. It just isn't cost effective.

And what +1Engineer said about KDSS. Toyota's own YouTube videos and such imply it is an off-road system, but it simply isn't. The suspension between a Trail and SR5 is identical short of the KDSS. Your mechanical range of motion remains the same between the two systems with the "spring" of the swaybar being the only difference. KDSS basically allows you to have big sway bars without those big sways screwing up your articulation. There is probably a very, very small additional amount of articulation in an unlocked KDSS TE, but the handling improvements are massive compared to a nonKDSS equipped truck, thus it should really be considered an onroad system.

I believe somewhere on this site there are measurements of the difference in articulation between an sr5 and kdss trail and there was a pretty sizeable difference. There may have been pictures as well, I remember because when I saw it I thought to myself, wow it really does make a difference off-road.

Anyway I think the TRD Pro is really awesome personally and can't wait to see it. My mutt limited works for me, I spent more than a trail and modded the sucker anyway though, doh!

Here in Canada, no one at the dealer ever heard of a TRD-pro model.. I hope it's coming here also because I had plans for my TE.. I'v put everything on hold right now for the TRD.. I even call Toyota Canada and apparently the marketing department can't say.. I'll keep my fingers crossed

Someone posted that Canada is not getting the Pros

I think Toyota fell a little short on the 4runner TRD Pro. IMO with the suspension changes they made they should have complemented it by at least increased the size of tires and had the gearing adjusted to reflect optium rpm for better mileage. The size tires are the same as any other trail addition not enough change to warrent trading in my existing trail. Had they done that I would be serioulsy considering upgrading and bye to the KDSS.

You don't need anything wider than a 7" wheel for 4runner application. Wide tires are for looks.

Toyota or any global brand is a sales and marketing endeavor first and foremost.

Some of you guys imply that the above is somehow some sort of gimmick when the gimmick is actually you.

Why do you think range rovers sell so well? They're lifted sedans now yet still sold as a do everything car when 99.9% never go off-mall.

Trd is a badge. And buying into that badge is totally fine.

I wasn't referencing wider tires but rather taller tires. That is what effects rpm's thus changing the gear ratio to restore where Toyota wanted the vehicles to run at.

I just heard from my sales guy here in Scottsdale and he confirmed that the first batch of white TRD Pro 4Runners were loaded on a boat on 9/3 and are headed for the US. No further details in regards to what dealerships will be getting one out of this first batch or how many white TRDs were shipped. We are getting closer!

In my mind, I see larger contact patch, which for sure could be an advantage on tarmac and loose earth. Of course there there may be trade offs in efficiency... then again, what could I know having only built/raced cars and built aircraft.

The guys that track the FR-S run 225 width while the guys that auto-x their FR-S run 245. You typically don't leave 2nd gear in auto-x, so contact patch trumps tire weight. The wide tires punish top end and give you more grip at the expense of turn-in/agility. My point is that there is a sweet spot for a non-racecar with moderate power output. They could have thrown 285s on there, but that could have been a miserable drive if the tire weight bumped up a lot*. If the extra inch width didn't pay huge dividends off-road and demolished responsiveness and fuel economy, they would have been a poor choice. It isn't as straight forward as 'more is better'.

*my personal experience with the Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor tire was poor. I disliked how my 4Runner drove after I changed tires. The shop swore they were the light truck version, but they rode like the higher load rating version.

Design compromise. The world is full of them and I have done my share lol.

Just placed deposit

I worked my local dealers over the last week. Closest dealer wanted 6 grand over MSRP. Ill post hard copy receipt once in hand. 10/22 delivery. Black with a few options remote start and sliding rear cargo deck (whatever that is). My wife will drive it to work, and I'll learn how to off road on the weekends.

My dealer can't give me a date when it will be in. I put a deposit down the last week of July. He keeps telling me that they are not able to see where I can select options yet. I am supposed to pay a couple hundred under MRSP.

IS this for real, dealer wanted 6 grand over MSRP?
You didn't really make a commitment on that, right? :wtf:
