4runner TRD Pro

Good Evening Everyone!

I just recently picked my Super White TRD Pro about 5 days ago. I completely agree with TRDPPRORUNNER it is a very capable vehicle, I only have 300 miles on mine and have taken it through a little bit of off-road and I have to say it's a very smooth and comfortable ride.

With regards to the adjustability of the suspension I'll be taking my Pro to the Dealer today and see if they can raise it one more notch.

Very interested to hear what they say. Should have my Super White by the end of next week. Still debating on what to do with my 09 Tacoma OR. Sell outright or trade it in...

I was informed that they did not put the sunroof in as they were concerned about torque/twisting while off-roading which might stress the sunroof leading to leaks or breakage??? In theory that might be true but who knows?

Makes comeple sense, I doubt a TE with Crawl Control, Multi Terr Select, Locking Rear, A-Trac, Hill Control . . . Ohh yah . . . KDSS . . . Would be doing any "off-roading." :lol:

c. I don't care about the KDSS because if you put a lift on the trail model, you loose the KDSS anyway.

Bummer about the sunroof wish they put it in.

Spent some time test driving the Pro last weekend. My current 2013 TE has 5100's set to .85 in the front, and KDSS. My observations have pretty much been called out by everybody, but here they are.

1. I love the look of the TRD Pro
2. The interior is wonderful
3. I'm not giving up KDSS
4. Nose dive is almost identical to mine
5. I'm not giving up the sunroof
6. The front grill is better, but still not crazy about the front
7. The rims should have more offset
8. My Duratracs are A LOT noisier than the Nittos (are the Nitto's P rated? I forgot to look)

At the end of the day I'm not pulling the trigger. For the trade difference I can go with new rims / tires and a Toytec suspension upgrade. I gotta give Toyota props on the TRD Pro. If I didn't own a TE now I'd be all over it. I'd like to see a new TRD Pro model with KDSS and sunroof, but would hate to see the price.

How does the nose dive compare to a stock trail? His much difference did your 5100s make?

If you blind folded me I probably couldn't tell the difference between mine and the Pro. I didn't really push on the Pro brakes too hard because the truck only had 6 miles on it. So I wouldn't call my test scientific.

A stock Trail is night and day. I upgraded my tires before I installed the 5100's. I noticed improvement with each upgrade. I've driven the truck for 30k miles so I probably just don't notice as much.

I spent more time looking at the skid plate in hopes it would work with KDSS. I'll drive by at lunch and try to get some pic's of the "Toyota" grill. Unless somebody that owns one can post.

That doesn't sound right, kinda defeats the purpose of having a frame if the body still ends up flexing that much.

I am skeptical as well. I'm just reporting what was told to me by a dealership.

My thoughts are they are trying to save $$. No other reason.

IF it is true, Toyota has some serious 'spainin to do with all the hmm... cough... official specs sheets released and so on. It wouldn't surprise me if they read all the negative user feedback about lack of sunroof and had a change of heart. We'll see....

+1 - that thing looks great! I'm ready to downsize from my Raptor a little but I am not ready to give up the Sunroof. Silly maybe but the tailgate window down and sunroof open is a big plus for me and the pup. The tailgate window is why I originally got a 4 Runner - both of the past ones had a sunroof and so does my Raptor - I damn near added one aftermarket to the Jeep and the Gt500 is a convertible. I need the sunroof. That black all cleaned up looks amazing though!

What part of BOF do they not get?

You'd pop the windshield out before anything would happen to the sunroof, which is floating around on rubber seals.

I was told by one dealer in Vegas that it most likely was due to potential off road structural stress as they foresee some people racing around at high speeds, etc. and also told of the worry of a roll over off road. Probably lawyers chimed in.. or maybe just to keep costs down a bit. Either way... I don't buy it... They could've done it and should've done it! After 9 months of looking at the Inferno with it, that was far too misleading. My bet: go to toyota.com in a week or so when you can "build" your own TRD and look for the box that says "sliding moonroof" and "KDSS" as options. Any takers? Vegas odds?

They probably gauged the interest of customers when they were testing & advertising the pre-production units, saw that there was a lot of interest and knew buyers would like up. Much more profits to be made selling a TRD Pro off of the base Trail model rather than the Trail Premium.

I wouldn't take too much stock in what a car dealer has to say on the matter. If that were true, none of the 4runners would have sunroofs.

That being said, usually OEM sunroofs are installed in a way that does not effect the rigidity of the roof or very little. Supercab pickup trucks, the kind with no B pillar will have the most flex in the cab even though they are BOF but usually not enough to notice in the sunroof area. However, I have seen some aftermarket sunroofs, especially in the pickups mentioned above, that were improperly installed by cutting out a roof crossmember. In those vehicles, when the terrain got twisty, it sounded as if the sunroof was falling out and/or the cab was going to fold like a tin can. Really, in a vehicle like the 4runner, we don't have to worry about this though.

IMO, KDSS and the sunroof was left off so the profits margin would be better for the TRD Pro since production numbers are limited. Nothing to back that up
