4runner TRD Pro

If anyone wants to see what you CAN put on a TRD PRO go to toyota's website, build a 4runner using this zipcode: 29036. There aren't many options available.

I just received mine yesterday. My dealer sent me a text at noon with this picture:

I left work immediately and went and picked it up. They had it waiting on the showroom floor.

It's quite a beauty. If anyone would like pictures of certain things let me know. I know there is not a lot of info on the webs.

Having been through the wait for the Raptor (I held out until 2013) and seeing minor upgrades and options each year I would not be surprised if the sunroof option at least comes forward at a later date along with probably some other things. If in in fact they feel the KDSS takes away it may never be an option on this model...time will tell.

I would bet we see some additional color options, potentially other cosmetic options, and very little to no changes on anything overly performance oriented. That being said it's a great looking truck. I am sold o the black given the lack of color choices right now but I will be holding out for the Sun Roof or having to go with the Trail Premium when I give up the fight. I am not in a position of need as the Raptor is a great truck too, an SUV fits my life needs better (dogs inside) and the size is more appropriate for when i have to go into horrible places like the city. Over all I think this is a great platform but throw in a warrantied S/C option, a sun roof, and options around suspension, gearing, exhaust, etc. and it goes from kick ass to wet dream pretty fast......I know it won't happen but just give me the sun roof and I'll handle the rest.

Congrats on getting yours! They are a sweet truck for sure. I went out last night just for no reason other than to drive it around the block a few times again. I'm still in disbelief about just how darn smooth it rides. I'm sure you'll find the same... Congrats again and thanks for the zip code. I looked it up and suppose this will be the actual, official build on it. I stand corrected on the sunroof option and quite relieved actually. That would've really hurt the early adopters. Enjoy it!

Simple, make it yourself! The preproduction units were just normal shipping cars that were outfitted with TRD parts. Buy an SR5 or a trail with the normal options you want (for $$$ less than the pro) and then put TRD or other parts on it as you like.

My half finished SR5 is WAY ahead of a TRD pro

Price would come out to about the same if you stuck to the cheap bilstein suspension upgrades and the other few TRD Pro doo-dads. Would probably stay away from the expensive TRD wheels and go with something from Method for 1/2 the price or less though.

Thanks, I love it. It handles like a heavy Jeep Wrangler to me, which is what I like. Very pleased.

Building mine myself as well, not from a trail, but a SR5.....

Warthog... my TRD wheels were only 175.00, aren't Methods about 135.00-150.00+?
Needless to say, I am liking my TRD wheels on my truck.

Sidenote...my truck was in the shop yesterday tire puncture from a sharp piece of limestone.....Techs detoured from their jobs to walk over and look at it!

My TRD is 22"R and 21"F. I have a Gobi stealth on top so maybe a slight sag... Not sure.

It does appear to be removable. I also looked under the front and it appears that the whole grill front can be removed.

How does your SR5 4wheel drive compare to a TRD?

My SR5 does not have KDSS (Not sure if that's all of them or not though). And is missing crawl control and a locker over most of the trails (Some do and some don't have KDSS)

When I'm done I'll have 33s on it and therefore will be regearing and adding an ARB locker. I was iffy on the KDSS, while nice, it is an expensive and sometimes in the way piece of equipment, which, with better suspension isn't as critical. Though I AM adding some swaybar disconnects, sort of a manual KDSS

So the SR5 is more of a traditional base platform to start a build with. Trail comes with some nice stuff, though depending on your plans you may end up circumventing some of it anyway down the road.

In the end, where actual rubber meets the rocks offroading is virtually identical with the exception of the elocker on the trail, that's the main thing IMHO missing from the SR5 as a pure offroader.

I had my truck at the dealers last weekend too. When I came out to pick it up a couple sales guys were standing near it pointing at the bumper and stuff

Though Toyota of Escondido has several awesome desert rigs in the showroom, including a 190k trophy truck for sale, so my little build wasn't like the biggest build on the lot by a long shot
