Did you have to remove the front mud flaps.

No mudflaps were taken off... I did however have to take off these small little plastic pieces in the back edge area under the door because it blocked the sliders from installing, it was just taking out 2 screw with a philips screw driver ... Hard to explain but nothing significant had to be done installing it

Finally did mine today too. Also used Anthracite but without glossifier. Looks much better than the chrome imo.

Agreed. There is no other chrome pieces. The glossifier made it look a bit more like the front toyota logo but either way I think it's better.

Already put this in another thread but wanted to give props to Metaltech4x4 ... Got my MT sliders installed in about 45 mins as a straight bolt onto the frame, super easy install.. They gave me a military discount which is super cool of them. This is my first add-on to the vehicle... upcoming buys: Gobi rack w/ light bar, Rooftoptent w/ awning, Hidden Winch, and possibly an offroad trailer....... will update as it comes in within the next month[/QUOTE

I'm not too thrilled with Metal Tech right now. After speaking with them a few weeks back I placed an order online for their sliders. The following week I get a call from their secretary saying that they need more money for shipping. I placed the order online and shipping was calculated but they now wanted double the calculated amount...after I had already paid. I explained that I made the decision based on total cost and I probably wouldn't have purchased their product if I knew the shipping cost was going to be many orders of magnitude larger than any of their competitors.

The call came in the evening so I asked when they would ship. They weren't shipping until the next day, so they said that I should call the next morning and pay the additional shipping or they would offer a refund. I called the next morning to work it out, but had to leave a message. Then I called in the afternoon and left another message, as I had not heard back from MT. No call back or anything. The next day I e-mailed them. Again, no reply and I still haven't received a call. They have my $600+ and I have no idea where this stands.

Also, I informed them that I was buying these for a trip this weekend, so that the car would be protected while I'm exploring up north. At this point I just want to know what the hell is going on...or at least refund the $600+ so that I can duck tape that to the rockers for protection. :wtf:

Ironically I bought the TRD Pro because it had awesome suspension (at least that's what I thought) and here I am replacing it with an Icon kit. Also swapping out the tires.

I guess don't be surprised to see the TRD suspension up for sale from me in a couple of weeks.

Afternoon All,

I have about 2,500 miles on my TRDPro since February and I posted a couple weeks in about a metal noise that is still present when you only put in D or R. At the time, the dealership had another Pro in the showroom and the car had the same metal noise when shifted into gear. We then looked at two trails that had the same noise but not as loud. They said they would keep running tests, but said it was likely normal.

I have had a couple car enthusiasts listen and the noise comes from the front passenger side, which they said is likely the torque converter. I have generally had manual cars for the past 15yrs, but some research on the Internet makes it sound possible that it could be a failing torque converter.

I was planning to wait until my first check-up/ oil change at 4500-5000 miles. Is there anything specific about the Tq converter that I should be on the look out for that would make it important to go back now? Car shifts OK and the noise is audible only until about 10-15mph.

Thanks for the help as I plan to keep this SUV around for 10+yrs...

i will probably eventually do the same, but not for 3-5 years down the road. at that point, i feel like the stock TRDP set up will have provided me with capability not available in any other 4R model in the interim, and i really won't feel as if i wasted any money by buying the TRDP.

Well this is a quandary -- There's a dealer that's not exactly local to me that has two, count them two Super White Pro's on their lot. I have a deposit down on an Inferno due in at the end of June to a more local dealer. I like both colors,...maybe like the Inferno a bit more but I could do the deal tomorrow for the white one. Fuuuuu!!!

Finally got around to dip the emblem in the back to match the front. I went with anthracite with one coat of plasti dip glossifier

I did it in 2 stages,

Stage 1: Taped off the Toyota emblem and left about 1/4 of an inch on black plastic exposed per directions in the video below. I put down a really light initial coat about 50% coverage of black plasti dip spray. I then waited 15 min and then put down 3 more coats waiting 10 min between each coat.

Stage 2: covered the drying emblem with a tissue so that the masking tape wouldn't pull it away. Then tapped off the 4 runner logo like in stage 1 then put down 4 layers of Anthracite plasti dip ordered from DipYourCar.com -Plasti Dip For Your Car - Glossifier Blaze Pearlizer Metalizers Pro Car Kits Peel Coat and one coat of glossifier from the same site to give it the same look as the front Toyota logo.

Note: Make sure you thoroughly clean the emblems with either an IPA 50/50 solution or a pre-dip solution from dipyour car.com

TRD PRO squishing brake noise

Hi Everyone:

Just picked up my TRD PRO 2 days ago. Got it in super white and I absolutely love it. Traded in my 2000 SR5. Had to wait about 2 months for it (and that was so painful) but now the reward is amazing.

I've been on this forum for years, but never posted anything, so forgive me if this is the wrong way/thread to post this.

So, I was driving around yesterday (my first day with the truck) and I started to notice a weird squishing noise coming from the steering column area.

Im neurotic when it comes to a new vehicle and trying to see if there's anything wrong with it.

Anyway, I figured out its the brake, and when its depressed and released it makes a really f'n annoying squishing sound. I searched online and it looks like people with other model 4runners (4th and 5th gen) have this issue too and they are saying that it is unresolvable. Really?

My 2000 4runner never did this. I've read something about it having to do with brake assist, but come on.

Does anyone else have this issue? Anyone able to fix it? Anyone else being driven crazy by it?

I'm excited to be an active member here and I will post pix soon.

It's not an issue, per se. It's just how the 4runner break pedal operates. Yes, it's weird that depressing the break makes noise, but my TRDP does the same thing and my Land Cruiser did it, to a lesser degree.

The only fix for that is to rotate the volume knob of the audio system to the right, otherwise there is nothing you can do about that noise. They all do it. It has something to do with the brake panic stop assist system.

I just took the truck for a quick spin to get a cup of coffee, and when the music is on (even at low volume) the brake noise isn't noticeable.

What can you do? oh well. I mean, personally, I think its an irresponsible design and they could have done something to mitigate it, but if thats something i just have to deal with in order to own this beautiful truck, i'll take it.

While i was waiting on delivery of my truck, i literally read every single post under this TRD PRO page. One thing that I found very helpful, was when some of you discussed the deals you got. It was really amazing how little the dealership was willing to work with me. But I get it. If i don't take it, someone else will in a heart beat. So here's my negotiation...

Traded in a 2000 SR5 with 199,200 miles on it. I was going to need a new timing belt and there was just more rust on the undercarriage than i was comfortable with. I thought there may be an issue with one of my control arms in the front, and one mechanic didnt even want to touch it because he said "im afraid if i start taking things apart, more things may just end up snapping". It just got to a point where the repairs weren't going to be worth it.

I strolled into Toyota one day just to try my luck to see if they had any white TRD PROs coming in. I knew I had a slim to none chance. Sure enough, they said they had 2 scheduled to come in but one was already spoken for with a deposit on it. Now, two days prior to that, another dealership had two white ones being shipped over to them, and within HOURS they were both spoken for and had deposits.

I got to negotiating and the sales guy really pissed me off. $43,400 and he was only willing to come down $200. So I left.

Got a courtesy call from the dealership the next day to see how my visit went and I told them they blew a deal and didnt make me feel like a valued customer when i've had a 4runner for the past 13 years.

Long story short. Manager got on the phone. Got them to $42,500 (which i still think was high, but they wouldn't budge past that). I took $2,750 for my 3rd Gen SR5 on trade in. And that was that.

Honestly, I think I got really lucky because i waited about 2 months and when the truck finally got here it was a different VIN number than the one that was on my deposit slip. I think their computer system messed up and they actually didn't have one allotted to come in, but since we made the deal they found me one. The one i was supposed to get was supposed to have remote start, chrome tip, and cross bars. The one that came in only had the rubberized floor mats. They let me keep those (yay! 200 bux right there) and they added everything else on for me.

Needless to say, apart from the squishy brake noise, I couldnt be happier. I love this truck so much (especially in white). My only other concern is that CLUNK noise that everyone has been talking about. I keep trying to listen for something when i hit bumps or speed bumps and I dunno if I'm hearing anything or not. Like i said, im really obsessive compulsive when it comes to things being perfect when i buy them, so I have this truck under a tight microscope right now. So, i dunno if I'm hearing a clunk or not. How pronounced is the noise that you guys who have the CLUNK are hearing?

Its a shame that you can't get a sunroof or side view markers, but oh well.

Planning on doing a GOBI STEALTH rack (with the insert) and an LED bar for the top to start off with.

Anyone know if the GOBI STEALTH rack reduces gas mileage at all?

Anyway, if you even made it this far, thanks for reading and sorry for the dissertation. Excited to be part of this forum.

Irresponsible design? Go out to a deserted straight stretch, get it up to 55 mph and slam on the brakes as hard as you can, like a deer walked out in front of you. Pretty sure you will be impressed. Make sure you have your seatbelt on before you do it though. I did a write up on the brake operation that explained the squish noise and the importance.

Yes, the rack will reduce efficiency and increase your COG.

I'm not questioning the braking system's utility.

There are plenty of vehicles out there with incredible braking systems.

There had to have been a way to design the system without having to hear a squish over and over and over again.

I actually had the same complaint in 2011 with my '10 4Runner. It took about three days before my brain just tuned it out lol. Seriously though, do the test I outlined above if for nothing else to be prepared for it in real life. When that first deer ran out in front of me and I smacked the brakes I stopped. NOW. It is a bit unsettling until you get used to it and my son sitting in the passenger seat looked at me like "WTF?". It is one of the best braking systems I have ever used. The squish? Yeah, they could have put a sound panel around the orifice and valve but hey, nothing's perfect.

The brake assist comes in based on speed of actuation, not force of actuation. This means you can push as hard as you want on the brakes and if you do it in regular speed you will not engage the brake assist. Now if you hit them quick, like in a panic situation? You barely have to depress the brakes (but really fast) and the assist will kick in. Try it.
