Recently started looking at 4Runners. Like Honda's for family cars and European cars for fun. Never thought I'd seriously be looking at a beige Toyota. Saw a quicksand TRD Pro in a dealership garage with crap lighting and loved it. Later saw a quicksand Tacoma outdoors and also liked it. Quicksand gives the 4Runner a military look. It's a Hummer-esque color. If I were in the military, I'd be all over it. After some thought I didn't want to feel like a military poser. But I have no problem being an off road poser.
This TRD Pro in the photos sold within a couple days, used with about 1200 miles here in the Bay Area with an asking price of $48k. Same dealer had a used grey one sold just as fast for the same asking price. Called a few local dealers and ones with available allocations are asking about $4k as a markup or required add-ons.
I can't decide what to do. Just get a TRD Pro, get a SR5 premium with the 3rd row seats to make it more family friendly and add on the TRD grill and wheels, or just keep my beloved 2008 G500. The TRD vs Trail or SR5 debate reminds me of 911 GTS models. You can add on a lot of GTS goodies to a 911, but the GTS is simply harder to find and command higher new and used prices. The 'rarity' of the TRD Pro is catching the attention of those looking for their cool, fun, special suv. With all these new suv's being made up by car manufacturers each year, the 4Runner is being recognized as a true original. So someone that has room for one more special car in their garage, a sub $50k TRD Pro is pretty attractive when that same customer was looking at alternatives that started at $60k+ with worse resale and reliability.
