Mine came with a small piece of paper with Japanese characters on it that roughly translated to "brodozer" but no oakleys or strange t-shirts. LOL

Just to clear up any confusion here is the port prep sheet from my truck, I specifically requested my dealer keep the truck in the exact state as it rolled off the carrier as I really wanted everything possible as I am a car nerd.

the pic may be a bit hard to read but it shows the following done at port.

4 gallons of gas
TRD Pro wheels/tires
PRO suspension remove/install
Alignment
Lower door paint film
TRD Skid plate
TRD badges
TRD shift knob
Remote engine starter (option i ordered)
TRD floor mats
Cargo tray (mat not the slide out)
All weather mats (didnt really want them but in a moment of weakness i said OK)

There you have it, the only TRD specific thing done at the factory is my quicksand paint job. (edit: and the front grill)

This also means any non quicksand or inferno or for 17 cement trucks rolled off the line as trail premiums without a sunroof or kdss basically.(edit: and the front grill, so even the SW and MGM trucks are built as PROs)

Sorry to the SW and MGM guys and gals. us people of special color are more unique. :

That is half the reason i requested all packing material be left in my truck, so there is zero question as to it's origin. Also in the highly unlikely scenario I go to sell it, little things like this can help put it over another vehicle on the market.

Now if toyota would do build certificates like SVT did for my Lightning, car nerd overload.

went by the dealer today, my VW is a part of the buyback due in, probably, November. Shooting for a Magnetic Gray Pro if they can get one. If not I may wait and see how Cement looks in the flesh. Quoted price is 41,667 (no sales tax here). Comes with cargo tray and rubber floor mats. Can't wait for one to come in

The trail prem also comes with the same seats... trd pro is awesome but I don't get the point of how much everyone tries to differentiate them. Unless it's a special color and warranty for a small lift.

In my book they are both equally capable it just boils down to cool color and no sunroof or more basic color and sunroof.

Since I wanted KDSS and more road stability and since I typically like being in control of what lift I get I opted for TEP.. but that orange TRDP still drives me crazy.

Lol, I thought we were the only ones crazy enough to trade a 45 mpg TDI for an 18 mpg 2016 4Runner. We had a 2015 Golf Sportwagen TDI (early Sept purchase) of last year, about a week before the TDI scandal broke. Toyota dealer gave us $19K on trade, for our '15, Golf SE, with 12K miles on it. I was happy with that number, considering we paid $26K new for it last Sept.

I know we were dumb for trading our TDI in three months ago, but really we were longing for a more utilitarian vehicle for our family, over a limited capability car/ wagon thing. I enjoyed driving the VW dearly, it was quick, handled like a sports car, and the mpg's where amazing for a vehicle like this.

In the end, we are much happier with our 2016 4Runner, 18-19ish mpg and all. I will say, get used to going to the pump way more often than you do with your TDI though.

My Touareg would get 15-18 MPG and never above that. My GTi would get 23-25 but that VR6 was a thirsty beast. The problem with getting 15-18 in a Touareg is the frequency in which it has to the dealer for issues and the cost to repair those issues. Hell, a set of 4 tires would run you $1600 and those soft rubber sports would only last you 25k'ish.

While I will miss my current 24-28 MPG in my Ford the room and function of the 4Runner will make up for that loss I feel.

If there weren't not a buyback I wouldn't be. I love my Golf, but I've been longing for a 4Runner since we traded the last one in and this seems like the least financially irresponsible way to do it

no, what he's written doesn't make any sense whatsoever. the "no seats, no door panels, no 4WD selector and they add the crawl control" business broadcasts a pretty wholesale ignorance on the subject, frankly.

to your questions: Toyota doesn't ship an (allocated) TE and "turn it into an (unallocated) Pro" because "someone wants it." there is a fixed allocation of both models (actually, of all models).

and, as such, there are specifics as to what's included in each model—built upon precisely the same base—as it moves down the production line. point is, so far as the Tahara plant's production line is concerned, the Pro is more or less a base model TE that ships in a specific set of colors, with specific interior Softex trim, and a specific front grill. then, when it finally arrives at port, it gets the rest of the Pro bits added. it shipped from Japan as a "Pro"... it simply wasn't finished until it got the final treatment stateside. no biggie.

unlike the Tacoma and the Tundra, the fact that the 4Runner is shipped fully assembled from Japan undoubtedly creates import and tax implications that, from the perspective of a balance sheet, make good business sense for Toyota to manage the 4Runner TRD Pro's final assembly this way. i'm sure the Taco and Tundra Pro are handled differently.

i don't see what the big deal is or why any of this is so difficult for some to grasp or digest (or stomach). i sincerely don't understand where the distaste, denial and delusion surrounding this subject comes from.

my initial response was to someone stating everything was done at port which is obviously not correct. Guess they'll not re-align their factory and build 50,000 pros this year

Well I took my newly delivered TRDP with factory installed parts, port installed parts and gallons of dealer armorall on the tires, on it's first road trip.

Just got mine back from the dealer. New left and right shocks installed per TSB. And a wheel alignment. Probably won't know much until it starts getting cold out again. Also picked up some Michigan magnets. Go BLUE!
