4runner TRD Pro

Here in the midwest, you can sell a TRD Pro for more than what you paid for it. I see them for sale anywhere $45-48K when you can find them. The metro auction here just had 2 go through and both sell for $46 and change....at auction

Also, I knew that I was keeping mine bone stock. And I simply did not want to fiddle with swapping out bits and parts, wheels, tires, etcetera for the Pro look on a TEP. But once I saw Quicksand in person, I had to have it. Not a single day goes by where I don't get looks. People often saying things at the pump like, "What edition is that? Is that a military spec vehicle? Looks like a heritage color, like the old FJ40s, etcetera." Would not have any other color. Plus, at the price I got, it was only a negligible difference over a TEP.

For you current TRD Pro owners (if you're even viewing this thread), are any of the option packages worth a darn? Been monitoring these threads for the last few months but can't really seem to find (even searched) anyone discussing these accessories. Just curious as I have TRD Pro on order and if they aren't worth it, then I'll pass. Thanks in advance!

It all depends. If I lived in Colorado, Utah, etc. . . I wouldn't buy one unless I HAD to have a special color. Living in Houston I don't get to go out and wheel nearly as much as I'd like. Therefore I knew I wouldn't have some fully built rig. The Pro's hold their value better as well it seems. I paid MSRP right up the road at Autonation Toyota, and knowing what I know now. . . I'd buy a Pro again.

Limited, yes; due to being able to run full-time 4wd (center torsen diff).
My choosing the TRD Pro was simple: color (inferno) and TRDP styling upgrades.

If those two things don't matter to you, you might as well go with a TEP and send some money Icon/Fox/King's way for a suspension kit.

Thats a good enough reason to buy one. The other reason is you can make a Trail LOOK like a Pro but its still not a pro

That's true, but you can easily turn a Trail in to a "TRDPro" with KDSS and a sunroof, but you can't add KDSS or a factory sunroof to a TRDPro.

But if you are buying your TRDPro for resale value, yes it's better to get the TRDPro. People will be willing to overpay for the original package from the factory. As stated throughout the thread, there are lots of examples of Bros overpaying for Pros.

Hell no. You can buy a brand new loaded Trail Premium with KDSS for the same price. throw in a couple hundred for the TRDPro Grill if you want the look.

I don't know why people pay premium for a TRDPro when you can get so much more in a Trail Premium and have money left over to add any suspension you want.

First off let me say I like all trims. Good Sir what your missing is some people appreciate a vehicle that is factory hooked up and not a clone of something it's not. Seems like a few trail owners have stage 5 hurt feelioma over the admiration the PRO gets, and continuously justify their purchase on numerous threads like an intimidated child. You can put ground effects and SS badges on a caprice classic but does that make it an impala SS.....no it does not, the vin does. Can you turn a trail into a pro, nope.
If you have trail, then rock your trail, it's awesome, but it will never be a pro. The pricing is similar and negotiable, I hope none of you are paying sticker prices anyway.

You assume everyone WANTS these options. I for one wanted neither. We pay more up front yes(or overpay as you say) but when it's time to sell the vehicle, we make more back. If an owner plans to keep it forever as some do, then what's a few grand spent over the rest of your life?

This is the only forum I've ever been on where a special, limited production model is shit on constantly.

I'm talking about these option packages...

I smashed my exhaust the first time out at Hidden Falls. I'd skip that if you ever plan on doing any off-roading. Same with the running boards. My rock sliders cost about the same and provide real protection. If it'll mainly be driven on pavement and dirt roads both options are fine. There is a thread on here about the cargo cover, and most people aren't too impressed with it. Remote engine start and the roof cross bars are both personal choices. . . if you want them, go for it.

I purposely wanted NONE of the options listed above. SO glad my truck doesn't have the sliding rear deck. I still think that is a horrible option for these trucks. Why limit your storage space?

I didn't buy my truck only for the resale but it was a big factor. Limited production, factory-built vehicles will ALWAYS be a good thing down the road when you decide to sell. That said, I intend to use my truck, drive it a LOT and put a lot of miles on it. Its a great truck so why not? I don't care about a sunroof or KDSS so it was a no brainer for me to hold out for the Pro and I couldn't be happier actually.

No one really cares, they are all virtually the same mechanically and I would argue the limited is the most noticeable in its differences (AWD to me is more different then Locker and KDSS). However if you want a rant, read below

Its because there have been, and always will be. A select few Pro owners who think that the Pro really is something special and gladly paid MSRP or over and most of us think that is ludicrous. Is it fair to judge a everyone by those standards no, and for the most part this gets blown out of proportion but to jump on the band wagon. The Pro is not special unless you get the 3 unique colors it was offered in that no other trim line had, even then it is just paint.....not a V8 drivetrain.

Is an BMW M3 noticeably different then a 328 - Yes. Is an Audi S4 noticeably different then a A4 - Yes. In both cases, the cost to convert the lower trim to the upper is prohibitive if not down right impossible due to complete drivetrain, body work and interior differences. The TRD Pro is not like that, some wheels, suspension, and a couple cosmetic items and you have something that is mechanically and visually identical expect for a Vin number......and those items are no better factory installed or installed in my garage.

Nothing wrong with the TRD Pro , its mechanically 99% the same truck as the rest. By far the largest difference "mechanically" offered in the 4runner line up is E-lockers (although this is easy to add-air locker), AWD Torsion T3 in the Limited, and KDSS as an option on Trail models. If you paid a reasonable price, welcome to the club, if you paid a huge mark up, welcome to the club but would love to know how your mind works (do you buy $60 Tee's with some graphic on them? or $280 dollar Nike running vests - Went to Chicago last weekend and about fell over at what some of the stuff was priced at.) But its not my money so really.....meh just don't think yours is better then mine, we are equals along with the lowly SR5 owners:nod:

These look like options that Gulf States Toyota distributors like to slap on a vehicle to up the profits. You ever see a Tundra TSS or 4Runner TForce edition? It only exists in the Gulf States lineup cause they created it. They're not factory models. When it came time to buy, I went out of state to avoid all the options like above being added to the vehicle. I ordered mine and specified carpet mats to be the only port-side option added.

I purchased a TRD Pro Quicksand about 4-5 months ago to upgrade from my 2009 Tacoma Prerunner TRD Sport. I loved the Tacoma, especially after investing a ton of time and money lifting and accessorizing it but I really always wanted the 4x4 model and regretted it. This time I told myself I would just try to find what I really wanted without compromising too much on cost if I could get it at a fair price. I will say that I called and researched for a couple months before finally finding a very fair and reputable dealer to purchase it from. Many of the dealers I called wanted MSRP or very much over that and made me feel very insignificant in the purchase.

Not directed at anyone in particular, but what I find strange about this particular thread "4Runner TRD Pro" ...is the number of people that don't own a TRD Pro (and claim not to want one) that join the thread simply to criticize? What is the motivation?

I dont particularly like the 4Runner Limited 5th gen...but would never join a "4Runner Limited" thread just to point out the things I don't like.

Keep it classy people.

You are indeed correct, sir! As I stated, I was curious to know if anyone bought into any if these, and if so, which ones are worth it. The only one that remotely interests me is the "connectivity kit," but I'm waiting for more information about that particular package. Thanks for your reply!

Looks like it gives you a hefty helping of spaghetti in your cupholder...(at least on the Camry)

If it was something slick and integrated into the dash or cubby, that would be great, but if it's just a bunch of wired jacks strung about, which I'm assuming it is, I would be out on that. You could do the same for less and tailor it better for your needs I should think.

So how much cash are we talking about to mod out a Trail to get all the TRD Pro stuff on it?

Parts and labor.

How close is the cost difference to get you to TRD Pro MSRP?

Just curious.

I absolutely did not want the rear sliding cargo tray. I placed a deposit with the dealer and specified that in my request. My truck came in and the only option that it had was........... the rear sliding cargo tray. Approximately one year later, I have to say that I've actually used that sliding cargo tray, a lot. I use it every single time when college football tailgating (GO BLUE!). I've used it to pull out and load awkward heavier items on it, before sliding it into place. Just did this with our snowblower. What I don't like about it, is the factory rubber cargo mat. It never stays in place. Don't ask me why, but I have thus far been too lazy to affix some velcro to the bottom of it. Sounds like an good project for this weekend.
