4Runner won't start when hot

Okay, it has been 2 weeks since I last replied to this post and about 1 week since I installed a relay between the battery and the starter as pkinfinity mentioned:

I'm very happy to report that installing this relay has fixed my problem. The car starts every time. Crossed fingers :hatsoff:

I know this is an old conversation but I love and drive a 1999 T4R and love it but I have started to experience this situation and was wondering if anyone out there know what relay is being referred to in this response?

I have exactly the some symptoms on my T4R.

Thanks in advance for any input and help given.

Manual? Auto?
If auto, checked neutral safety switch?
Care to post schematic of your truck so we can take a look?

The thread lives on! Hopefully it can help you too.

I seem to remember the relay looking something like this Toyota 4Runner Relay; relay assembly - 9098702009 - Genuine Toyota Part but your best bet would be to take your car into an auto electrician if you don't know what you're looking at. I don't and can't help you much more, sorry.

As another poster said, perhaps detail your car model and particulars to get a better response or enter these details into a parts site to find the relay.

Thanks 4 your response and helping.

I have to admit that i'm somewhat novice at mechanics but great at figuring out things and following directions and getting what needs to be done correctly.
I have a 99 T4R, auto, 4cyl and 2wd.

I don't know where the "neutral safety switch" and how to check it?

Can u tell me what schematics u need and I will do my best to find it and post it here so that u can eval and suggest. I'm pretty good at finding things online and pretty sure if knowing which schematic is needed, I can find it.

Just found this
I think this is what you might be asking about:

Thanks, can u post a pic of how this was installed?

...I hear a click noise when I turn the key but that is it.

Ramo,
If you also hear the click, please put us at your vehicle and tell us exactly where the click is coming from. We may be thousands of miles away :)
Meanwhile, WHILE IN PARK try jumping the small connector on your starter solenoid (piggybacked on the starter motor) directly to battery Pos 12V, and see if the consistently causes solenoid plunger to clunck and starter motor to turn.

Thanks in advance.

That looks like the correct schematic. However, I'm sorry, I do not have a 3rd gen so I do not know where the NSS is.
