As far as swapping in a JDM motor can I use most of my engine harness etc? How much work is involved? They seem to be super low miles from what I can see.

It really all depends on what you get the motor from. I imagine the harness will be very similar, but his issues were with mounts and stuff...

You will be able to re-use your old harness. Its basically just a plug and play operation except youre unplugging everything from the motor, pulling it, dropping in a new one and plugging everything back in.

Some of the JDM motors come from vans or 2wd vehicles so your motor mounts and oil pan could be different, and there may or may not be an oil cooler but you have all the necessary parts from your old motor. Swap those over and youre good to go.

The miles. JDM motors usually have VERY low miles... 50k ish.

Hmm still can pinpoint the reason why this happened to ya esp in cylinder 1 and 2. Usually the furthest bearing from the oilpump are starved the most and tend to rod knock before a kaboom but u said you didnt even hear it. Take pictures of the cylinder head so that we can see the condition of the oil and see if it dropped a valve. Sorry for your loss but at this point i would like to say ...... 2jz :tongue1:

I wouldn't buy a JDM motor without being able to inspect it first, there are pictures and stories all over the internet of JDM motors that never had the oil changed for the 50-70k that they were used in japan, that's some nasty stuff.

The place I got mine from had walls full of them, I walked out into the shop and they pulled them down and let me inspect them. I sweet talked the lady at the counter to let me pop the valve cover before I dropped my cash, and it paid off.

yea, I figured from the name you were somewhere in Oregon or Washington, in the NW we have the convenience of having huge warehouses full of JDM motors, I'm not sure if the OP has the same luxury.

Update. I ordered my new motor this afternoon and it should be here on the 27th of this month. Reman with all new internals. The only things it doesn't have are electrical, all of the intake, all the fuel stuff and exhaust. All of which I already have sitting in my garage cluttering up my tarp covered pool table. So ready to get this ordeal taken care of and start enjoying my truck again. I'll update more when she gets here.
