4Running Daily's Build Thread

Wow. The picture of you when you were three washing it with your Dad got my attention. That's the best history it could have in my opinion. Never ever get rid of this 4R.
Great thread!

What happened to the two week build time? Damn those look good. Anxious to see how you like them.

Honestly, no idea. I got emailed an invoice this morning with a tracking number, looked up the tracking number and it said out for delivery. Pretty happy. Install will be Wednesday followed by a thousand mile road trip Friday-Sunday.

Nice! 4 days is way better than two weeks. You sound like me with that timetable. My Kings went on 4 days before I left for Moab. Who needs testing, just go out and beat them up! :lookout:

Mines all highway driving, no fun stuff sadly. But hopefully I'll be able to feel a difference from 600 pound springs to 650 pound springs and valving too.

So uh, those coilovers don't fit.

Alright, so I cannot for the life of me get this shit in. The uniball is completely disconnected and I'm still a good inch off.

Ideas??

Saw that over on TW. They look long to me, longer than my Kings atleast. And with that being a 14" coil spinning the collar up seems like the spring would be loose. Which is also something I haven't seen on any OEM coilover.

Looks like you measured them and they aren't an 8" though. Although I thought OEM replacement Coilovers were somewhere around 5.5-6" travel and you measured 6.5+ right?

Everything you just said is correct. I'm pretty darn sure they are the wrong coilovers.

I know it won't change the extended length or anything, but I would adjust that collar preload back down so you have less than 2" of threads showing. I have 2.25" showing on my SAW's and I'm at 4" lift up front (24" even from hub to fender). My UCA's hate me lol.

That's a bummer man. It is an odd size of Coilover though. Not an 8" but not an OEM, it'll be interesting to hear what they tell you.

Don't suppose they have a part number you could double check off their website?

I already bought a spanner wrench to do just that. I plan on running less than an inch of preload with a 14" spring.

Of course their website doesn't list any part numbers on anything. I'll give them a call tomorrow and see what they say.

Guys, am I missing something here?

In the picture that was posted of the coilover not fitting - it seems to me that simply winding the spring perch up so the spring is loose will allow the shock to be installed without issue, then you can thread the perch to whatever desired height you may desire.

The only possible issue here is that with the extended down travel you may need/want a limiting strap - and most certainly uni-ball upper arms.

Correct, that would possibly work, but the extended length is way too long. I refuse to run a shock that extends 2 full inches past where the CV binds, I'll just blow axles all day long. No one should run a setup like that. That is why I'm working with ADS to get another set that is hopefully the correct length.

I think that is where the limit straps would come in - but you are correct, the right length shocks would be the best.

I have no idea what these are worth (care to share that?) but I am sure they are not cheap, so they should be made right.

I don't actually understand how they could design it like that since it is supposed to be a tailor made part.

Limit straps will be installed in the coming months no matter what, but when installing these, it was very very obvious that this is not the correct part.

I agree that for $1,500 they probably should have fit, but I'm all for supporting small companies like Savage Off-Road, and ADS Shocks. I'm not in a big hurry to mount these up so I'll give ADS some time to make it right. Not too big a deal in my opinion, things happen.
