I am sure you know to replace your rear breather at the same time.

Alright. So I stopped by my friends shop today so he could take a look at my clutch, and he confirmed a worn out flex plate. Shout out to Marlin Crawler because I bought their clutch kit and it only lasted 30k miles. So now I need a new clutch, new rear seals, and rear wheel bearings. Gross.
So I took my re-gear money, and dropped it off at mechanics. I need to head back to ASU tomorrow, so I don't really have any other option. I'm gonna take my Fiesta back to ASU until the 4Runner is done.

I didn't replace my 97 BMW 328iS clutch until just slightly before 160k. Any major hills and it would slip pretty easily at that point.. But hey, it made it to there. :yo:

I will not suggest Marlin Crawler. My OEM clutch lasted 160k miles and I taught at least 10 people how to drive stick on it. We beat the crap out of that clutch and it still lasted 160k. Over 60% of the miles on Marlin clutch were highway.

Awesome build 4running daily! I just bought a 96 evergreen pearl 4runner, and I also live in San Diego. Mine suffers from the same roof oxidation that yours had. I'm thinking about repainting mine, would you recommend the shop that you went to?
The post paintjob pictures looked really good, but I saw that you said you'd wished you'd gone to a more reputable place.
Any advice for a fellow San Diego 4runner owner?

I do not recommend the place that painted my 4Runner. They did a pretty awful job and I wish I went somewhere else. Luckily, I actually do have someone to recommend. My FJ Cruiser friends all go to Euro Pacific Auto Body in Vista, CA. I highly recommend their work, I've seen it in person and it is top notch.

Dammit Connor, I went through 5 pages of your build before giving up. Why are you selling it? Are you trying to join the ex-t4r club? We're not that cool. Unless your buying a SFA rig, that club is the coolest.

Everything's for sale for the right price. But technically speaking it's off the market. I'm just gonna deal with daily driving it for another 2 years and buy a daily eventually. Driving a 20 year old vehicle everyday gets annoying after a while.
I'm picking it up from my mechanic in San Diego this weekend though, wooh!

:faint:... Super interesting read there, sorry to hear about your recent clutch problems but glad to see you keeping her. I hate my MPG's with school and I'm probably running much better than yours, it'd be hard for me not to consider selling. As for a DD, why not pick up either a beater honda (or something of that sort) or a motorcycle? That's the route I'll be going once I start getting worse and worse MPG's to keep the miles off.

I know what you mean man. My Subaru is far more comfortable and ideal to drive. I drive with a lead foot and I get 30-35 mpg... in an Impreza wagon. We'll see if it drives that well after the lift and bigger tires :uzi:
Ideally, what would you get for a daily?

Sorry I'm just going to but in and comment.
My wife and I picked up a 08 Silverado crew cab and we love it much more than my 4Runner. So much more room! Not to mention it gets 1-2 mpg better, but that's my fault for supercharging the t4r.

That's actually a very good question, I've done a lot of regards to that. I love this Fiesta ST I've been driving lately. Took it on a road trip to North Idaho and Seattle over the summer, loved every minute. I just don't get bored of it. They're reasonably cheap new, $20k out the door with decent options. But that's still $20k plus insurance on 2 vehicles. Cheaper than that, the only thing I've considered is the new Honda Dual Sport which looks promising, and the new Ducati Scrambler. I also love late model BMW E39's, but finding a low mileage, manual, clean one is impossible; cheap though at $10k for a nice one.

I've got a 02 Yamaha WR426 that's more of an around town bike but it will do 90s revved out.
Much lighter and easier to move around than some of my other larger sport bikes.
What about a dr650, Ktm duke, Vstrom, or bmw gs1200?

I've been looking at the GS too actually. It needs to be more road driven rather than dirt. Ideally I could ride 6 hours back to California if needed

Alright update time.
So my mechanic believes the guys that did my clutch install used the wrong type of grease on the clutch fork and throwout bearing. Using a grease that dirt sticks too, potentially causing my clutch issues. We were able to adjust the pedal to the point I can get it into gear 90% of the time. So I said **** it and left it as is instead of spending a grand on a new clutch. He did replace my rear wheel bearings and rear seals though. So those are set. However my front wheel bearings and LCA bushings are trash and will need to be replaced soon. Can't wait to catch a break with this truck again and just drive it. Pretty tired of replacing one thing after another, I already miss the Fiesta. (4Runner is back in AZ with me.)
