This build has definitely progressed quite a lot since I first started following it...

So this actually took me a while to think about it, it's a pretty good question.

I can't really think of anything that I necessarily regret doing. Almost everything I've done has taught me something.

Suspension for example. I started with an Old Man Emu lift and even though it only gave me an inch and a half of height, it served it's purpose for many many years and now it lives on on another members rig. The Toytec Ultimate lift came into play when I was looking for a bit more flex and height and was the most expensive lift I could afford. It too served it's purpose. I found out quickly that I need something bigger and better for going fast in the desert. So I found some cheap Icon's with resi's on craigslist and gave them a shot. As much as I hate them, they taught me that I don't like digressive valving. I spent $1500 on ADS coilovers and I don't really regret that either, I love them and I love that company.

Same story with tires. The 255/85's I loved. Great tire size. I love my 35's too.

My only regrets are really in the wiring of it all, but I'm going to fix all of that this summer.


That said, if I were to do it all again, here's what I would do:
1999-2000 Sport Edition 4Runner
ADS Coilovers in front (2" lift)
ADS shocks in the rear with some 7.5 LC wraps
1" body lift
285/75/17's (34" tire)
Some kind of Uniball Upper control arm
Toytec links in the rear
Savage Off-Road Armor
Air locker in the Rear

I'm having a blast here in AZ. So much to explore during the day, and even more at night. Photography is my way of remembering each night! I'm looking forward to the Pulse. I'll definitely put it through it's paces as soon as I finally get it! Thanks Addison!










So I hit 204,000 today, so I figured time for more updates.

I decided my next venture would be the front approach angle. The Savage bumper has been great for the years I have put it through, but it sticks out 12 miles past the front of the truck. That will be taken care of this summer.

So I took care of something a tad smaller first, with the help of David (D_Farms):

You can see in this photo how low that first Savage skid sits. (Most likely so it can say "Savage" haha).

So naturally the only logical option was to cut it in half.

My other issue was the front C-Channel crossmember was bent in and has been since I got the truck. So I cut that out too.

Welded in a piece of angle iron closer to the radiator to get the skid tucked tighter.

Then we bent a piece of 3/16ths and start mock up.

So you have 35s with no body lift?
Can you elaborate on what you had to do to fix all rubbing?
Are you re-geared?
Are you satisfied with 35s?

You quoted a post from the first page which is interesting.
I actually have a body lift now. It's a progressive body lift, so the front is lifted 2 inches, but the rear isn't lifted at all. This allows me to gain up travel up front without compromising my center of gravity.
In order to clear 35's, no matter what, you'll need to tub the firewall. It's just the only real way to eliminate the majority of the rubbing. I'm also running 1" wheel spacers up front to keep the tires away from the frame.
I'm not re-geared. I don't plan to unless I find a good deal on parts.
I love these 35's. They made this truck so much more fun. I was getting pretty bored with it before, but my enthusiasm towards it has definitely sky rocketed in the last year. That said, I see a custom front end of some kind and 37's in the future.
 
We need to go back to that ruby wash and finish the whole trail, maybe well bring some snips to clear the nastier brush. also during the day haha.

Oh I saw the pictures and noticed you mentioned the Icons. I'm considering an upgrade to ADS from this Radflo 2.0 garbage since I'm about to go all shrockworks on my front bumper. What spring rate would you suggest with the ADS? Figure bumper plus 64 pounds for the winch.

The ADS coilovers come with 650lb springs, and I think that would be perfect for you. I think a 700# coil would be too much.

No because I don't know what I want to do yet. I could have them build me rear shocks that bolt into the stock location, but I want coilovers in the back too. So once I make up my mind on what to do with that rear axle, I'll have them build me something accordingly.
