4th gen 4Runner Secrets?

Hey guys,
To turn off your seat belt chime in a MY2008 do the following:

1) make sure the trip meter is in ODO mode.

2) turn the key to the ON position (dont start)

3) within a few seconds of turning it to ON, press and hold the trip reset for 15 seconds

4) while holding the trip reset, buckle drivers seat belt

5) odo reading will change to "B-on"

6) press trip reset once to change to " B-off"

Turn off car.

All done!

PS Wear your belts!!!!!

My 4runner has an automatic mall locator every time my wife grabs my key's I can't get the truck to do it at all when I drive the darn thing but she get's in and "zip" right to the mall

LMFAO!! I think you got a lemon! When my girlfriend gets in mine my radio volume goes down and I hear this annoying yapping in my right ear! must be a sensor on the passenger seat?

Cool feature: You can drive over stuff.

Very useful when one kid wants McDonald's and another wants Wendy's. You can just go over the curb and grass rather then venture back ut on the street.

Regarding the other features, I regularly have to re-engage the ignition on my wife's Odyssey because i'm used to just flicking the 4runner ignition. I also have a habit of hitting the lock button on the fob twice to cut off the lights, since I leave them on all the time.

The flap in the glovebox can be closed forming a secret hidden compartment to the unsuspecting.

Yup, I had forgotten about that compartment. I just re-discovered it a few days ago with my old apartment's garage door (from about 2 years ago) opener in it.

i dont know if it is common knowledge but, if you unlock the 4runner with the remote and dont open a door within 30 seconds or so it will re-lock the truck

I have you both beat. It only takes me 250 miles to make a tank disappear.

I got 433.6 miles on this last tank. and put 20.987 gallons in. thats almost 21mpg. Grandpa driving to and from work ftw!

Does this work for the passenger seat as well or is there another procedure? I've tried this before and it didn't work but I'll try this again. The dealer says there is no way of doing this.

This thread is very helpful for new owners. I had noticed the "secret compartment" in the glovebox, but didn't know it could open and close. Also loved the seat belt chime tip. Something not mentioned that I wonder if anybody uses is are the mirrors in the rear cargo area used when backing out of parking spots? Any other new ones?

Did anyone mention rolling up your rear hatch window by inserting the key in the back hatch lock and twisting the key twice? Very useful instead of having to go inside the vehicle to roll the rear hatch up.

You actually don't have to twist it twice, just hold it to the right.

I must have the same radio as you in my '06, cause the same thing happens to me, every time haha!

You can also use for lane changes on the highway. It's great for seeing the "blind spot". Look in your rearview mirror and look at the mirror on the DRIVERS (LEFT) side to see the car in the RIGHT lane. If you can see the front end, you're JUST ahead of the car. If the car is almost out of view in the mirror there is plenty of room for a lane change. It does take alittle getting used to to do it quickly but it's cool! Try it!

Also for above: I think it will ONLY shift into low range when in neutral. The flashing / beeping indicates it hasn't shifted yet.

It's in the manual. Basically, you have to turn the key to the on position and hold the unlock/lock switch down for 5 seconds. If you want the doors to lock/unlock with shifting, you leave the tranny in park. If you want them to lock/unlock the other way, you have to shift out of park while doing this.

I got lucky and nailed this on the first try. This was my biggest complaint with the 4Runner. Now the the locks lock in drive and unlock in Park. Wish I would have had this info sooner. Gotta love this web site!

you can also just pull out the speaker from the drivers side fender, and disconnect it...
