4th gen 4Runner Secrets?

can anyone tell me if there is a way to cansel the auto up and auto down on the rear window i have two german shepard dogs and i allways have to watch that i dont hit the up and my puppys might have they head out the window and they might get hurt

I dunno doesn't seem like that should be to much of a problem.... My windows don't go up fast enough that I could see it hurting a dogs neck.
My dog is always putting her head out the window and i put the window up with her head out of it and she gets the hint pretty quickly. It can't be any worse then a dog pulling on her leash..
Especially a german shepherd they have quite thick necks.

Nope mine's factory Toyota alarm. Has the little red button on the dash on the left side of the column next to the trac lock button.

Maybe its an SR5 vs Sport/Limited difference like mentioned??

Actually my alarm goes RainMan on me sometimes. I press the Unlock button, and the lights come on, it beeps, the doors unlock, and when I open the door, the alarm goes off. WTF??

And I have pressed the lock button before and had the lights stay off for some odd reason...... Probably need to have it looked at some day.....

Can you take a quick photo of the system and red button you have? I think I have the same one too, and have been trying to figure out what it is. If you press the lock button twice, does your panic alarm go off?? Mine does...not that I like that though...

I love the rear window roll down. I make sure to open the sunroof at a stop light and roll down the rear window when there's a $70k Escalade behind me.

The bad though. Twice now I've come back to my truck to have the rear window down, but the doors locked and alarm armed. I'm going to have to be more aware of just shoving my keys in my pocket.

I found a Stevie Wonder CD, a Temptations CD and also the original owners insurance card in the secret compartment in the glove box. HA HA HA!!:guitar3:

I've known of this for a while and I don't know if you all who live in cold climates have come across this:

The RECIRC button for the air automatically switches to fresh when the engine heats up and I haven't turned on the blower yet. This only happens when its below 40 deg Fahrenheit.

Having the rear window down is great, but the only issue is if you floor the vehicle, you sometimes get the back flow of the sulfur smell into the SUV.

I always leave my lights on and they go off within a minute after shutting the engine off and locking the doors. So they are always on once I get in and start the car, and I don't have to think about them.

Now I am going to have to try that!

Interesting about the bed, I was flipping through the owner's manual and saw a diagram of that. Will have to play with that sometime.

Also the "Secret Compartment" isn't exactly that secret. If I remember right its actually meant for your manual and warranty information...

What's interesting is how many of these little "secrets" disappeared going into the 5th Gen. I think we actually got a real bargain in the 4th Gen.

Is there a "secret" way to remove that stupid shelf in the cargo bay? I lose a lot of space with the damn 2" piece of plastic? It also makes lifting anything really heavy that much more difficult.

Not sure if this has been covered but if you hit your remote lock a couple times your light will go off right away.

For those who don’t know, if you tap the accelerate or coast toggle/switch on the cruise control it will accelerate or decelerate 1 mph for each push (three pushes will give a three mph difference).

Oh man, I just tried the "flick to start" feature people mentioned on here, I can't believe what a nice little feature that is! Just thinking about how many annoying seconds I've held the key in the "start" position on cold mornings, when I could have just flicked it to start and let go for the same effect, makes me a little mad -- but I'm sure glad I never have to again! :bluejump:

Presumably the stealerdships complained about the lack of repair work on starter motors because auto-crank was dropped on the 5th Gen unless you count the start button on the Ltd. It's one feature I have never seen anyone have a problem with on this forum by the way.

Yeah, it was probably seen as a competing feature with push-to-start, and they wanted to differentiate that Limited feature even further from the non-Limiteds... too bad, it's a great little feature.

Don't know if anyone mentioned this or not already, but it took me a month to find it. The arm rest folds open from the top, where you see the line in it. It makes for a great bottle prepare stationed if you're a Mom! Lol
