4th gen, 6cyl oil pan question

I just did first oil change. There was no washer on the drain plug. However, I think it may have been (painted) stuck on the bottom of the drain pan.
After the drain plug is removed, is the bottom of the pan supposed to be flush/smooth ?? Mine has a (raised) washer attached around the drain hole. I was unsure whether it is supposed to be permanent, or whether to try to knock it off (with a putty knife).
I left it on for now. As I'll probably change to a "quick drain valve" at next change, I want to know whether to remove it at that time.
Perhaps some 6cyl owners can chime in after there next oil change? Thanks, in advance.

I think you do indeed have a washer stuck to the oil pan near the drain hole. Try to scrape or knock it off and don't forget to replace it with a new one (79 cents).

I have a V6 and do my own oil changes. Piece of cake!!

Same here, Dealer charges me $ 4.99 for filter, but $ 1.20 for damn washer...

hmmph, the washer usually comes with the oil filter when i buy it from the dealer..

No, they add it to your filter and charge for it. Even Ford will give you oil drain plug washers for free if you buy filter.

ok, either way it's only $3.99 per filter purchase. it happens to be on sale whenever I need to buy a new one. I bought two last time though, so next oil change, just need to get the oil.
