4th Gen Alarm

Alright guys, can I easily disable the alarm on my 4th gen and keep the remote working for lock/unlock? It goes off randomly at all hours of the day and it really ticks me off!

Any pictures or write ups on where it's located and how to disable it? I do have the little blinky red light on my dash left of steering wheel, but it seems the wires are so short I can't pull it out to pull wires from behind it.

LED light blinking??? Sounds like an aftermarket alarm system. Factory alarm doesn't have any LED indicator light. Anyway, check with a local installer to check it out. More than likely a sensor has gone bad and is tripping the system.

What you have is a distributor installed alarm, not factory. The guys like Gulf States Toyota (Google them) added things to boost their profits.
Take off the cover around the bottom of the steering wheel. Look on the right side for a little piece of colored paper with a rubber band around it. Under the paper is the fuse. Or find this box and adjust the sensitivity of the alarm.

V8Man thanks for those images.

I just dug around under the dash/steering wheel and couldn't locate a box like what you show. I did find a similar one though that is black and is called "Auto Mate" on it. It's wires do lead to the blinky red light on my dash. It has a 10A fuse and a 15A fuse also connected to it.

Any other thoughts? Or would they locate that box somewhere else?

i would check the kick panel, if the only remote is from the aftermarket alarm, then disabling that will disable you from using that remote and lose keyless entry from it.

It's a toyota remote. So far it locks, unlocks and turns on with just the 10A fuse removed. I'll see if it makes a difference at 2:30am this morning when it decides to go off.

I did lock the doors and jump on the step bars and rocked back and forth, nothing happened. So we will see...

Any other thoughts keep em coming, I'm sure this will be lots of trial and error

Pulling the fuse disables the alarm only not the locks. Roll down the windrow lock the door open the door from the inside to see if alarm goes off.

to test alarm, you have to arm it and wait a minute for it to fully activate, then you can give the truck some taps and see if it feels vibration.

Pulled both fuses and it appears fixed! Doors lock, tested with window down and tried opening, good to go. It also didn't wake me up in the middle of the night. Other bonus is no more annoying honking when I lock/unlock. Just a nice quiet beep
