There will be when I trim the factory bumper. I wanted to do all metal, but dang, that would be a Lot of metal.

I have a harbor freight flux core welder. will it be enough to weld a bumper together? or even rock sliders?

Probably not the best option. What size is it? I had a 90amp once and it wouldn't weld until I put some Hobart wire in it.

Looks great, excited to see how it looks complete on your 4RunnerTuff coat done. Will be in south Arkansas for a few days. I'll get on Friday and post a pic. Think it looks killer. Can't wait to get it on.

Mine is a 125 amp. But flux core has lots of splatter. Will need to do lots of grinding and sanding to make it look.nice

Flux isn't bad but a bit messy. It only likes clean surfaces and not much of a gap. Ultimately can make some nice welds. I wouldn't hesitate to make a bumper with that welder. I only recently got a 180amp. Everything before was a Lincoln 140. No issues with up to1/4 inch. Just weld slow and take breaks. I tripped thermal beaker on my 140 all the time.

What’s everyone doing for paint/coating on armor? I’m almost done welding together my bumper and I have sliders coming too. I want something I can touch up but more durable than regular spray paint. I know everyone’s current favorite is raptor liner. Is it really that good? Easy to touch up? Thanks guys and gals.

Raptor liner is ok and not hard to touch up. I have a friend that owns tough coat liner. Is a high pressure liner that's extremely strong. He did my rear and front bumper. Sliders will probably be the same but won't be as easy to fix.

I really like the finish on your bumper. Only downside is not having someone local to do it. It’s like a rubberized or grippy coating correct?

Shrockworks sliders. Kind of a pain to install by myself with the U bracket mounting, but they are solid. I drilled and tapped into the frame for more stability. I did a 1" body lift after the fact and wished I'd done it in reverse because mounting the sliders would have been a lot easier after the BL.

For my sliders I use Rust-Oleum High Performance Enamel in top of self etching primer. Holds up to everyday use and super easy to touch up. Nothing will hold up to a slider dragging across a rock!

No this stuff is more like hard plastic when it's done. Should be able to find someone local that sprays high pressure bed liner. Bullet liner, rhino and all the major company's should be the high pressure stuff. They are able to get it much thicker

i used some bed liner aerosol first time around and had to touch up a little in the <1 yrs i ve owned them, white knuckle sliders and custom tire carrier. only scraped one slider along a tree thus far on a tight bypass. i am going to be POR15 where they attach to the frame and the bottoms, and for the remainder of them i will use 3m undercoating. i have a por15/3m project coming up - just sorting out if i want new skid/skids first.

Slider question: if the brackets of SE tubular-style sidesteps (running boards, whatever you want to call them) bolt to the frame, and the step part bolts to the bracket, is there any reason I couldn't:
1) Disassemble them;
2) Have a metal fab shop create the bar part that can be bolted to the brackets; and
3) Assemble the resulting parts, bolt them onto the 4R's frame and enjoy having sliders?
If that makes sense, maybe they could reinforce the brackets too with some additional plating?
Interested to see whether anyone has tried that approach or just has feedback based on their own experience with sliders.
