It obviously has door alarms... The big thing it has is the chipped key that pretty much eliminates the risk that someone could 'hotwire' it. Unless you have the Toyota option for the glass breakage sensor that might be a weak area.
Off-topic but I have a beautiful 45-70 trapdoor Springfield. It's the same make/model as Teddy Roosevelt carried up San Juan hill

thanks for the information. it's a nice vehicle hate for some nut job to get into it........and yes a very nice rifle with enough power to stop a charging whatever :cowboy:
The SR5 and Sport only have the engine immobilizer via the chipped key. The Limited has a couple of alarm-like theft deterrent features such as honking the horn if a door or the hood is opened without being unlocked properly. (If you were to break the window, reach in, unlock the door from the inside, and then open the door, the alarm would go off.)
I have on 06 ltd and the other day I wanted to test the alarm. I left the window open and loked the doors with the remote. Then I reached in and unlocked the door and opened it. Nothing happened. Should the alarm have gone off, or is there a way to arm the alarm that I'm not aware of?

I guess my SR5 has this. After one of the snow storms we had I was scraping the ice off the windshield. The alarm went off and I had left the key in the house.
Nothing like a sprint into the house early in the morning!
I'm guessing the neighbors did not appreciate the early wake up call that morning.Since then, I have been unlocking the doors and opening one of them so I don't set the alarm off by accident.
BTW, the reason I open a door is so that the 4Runner does not automatically re-lock and re-arm the alarm system. I learned that one the hard way as well.

Not entirely correct. My 07 SR5 has door sensors that work just as you described.
Glass break sensor is a must. But nothing will keep them from actually breaking in...bulletproof glass?

I think it should have gone off. I had my windows down on a hot day, locked the car, and when i came back out, i just reached inside and opened the door. Sure enough, my alarm began to sound. Had to start shuffling for my keys.
My Sport does that too. It's not just on the Limited.
Uh, yeah, I read my manual and realized the system doesn't engage for 30 seconds. I think I was opening the doors before the 30 seconds. Reading manual=less stupid questions on forum

The alarm was an option on SR5 and Sport Edition. It was standard on the Limited. With the "alarm" the horn will honk and lights will flash, if the doors or hood are opened without the remote or key. Without the alarm, there will be no sounds.

I've got an 06 Limited. In addition to the horn and flashing lights I noticed another feature. If the alarm is triggered any attemped entry is defeated by the door locks locking repeatedly at a high rate. The doors can only be opened from the inside while holding the lock mechanism. I had AAA "unlock" my car once. The guy had to get the hood open to disconnect the battery before he could unlock the doors.
Nothing is 100%. I've had cars with elaborate alarm systems and immobilizers broken into. I've never had a car stolen, but I've had everything else inside stolen.

hehe - just a pix from last years hunting season. I also have my CCpermit and sport the 38 S&W most the time. - won't do shiz if I ain't in the rig.
I try to watch where I park my rig but to be honest if someone whats to get in there is not much we can do to stop em. Don't keep any thing of value in sight including your GPS holder if you got one. They had a rash of GPS thefts at Jags games this fall. THey would take the GPS, hit the home button and rob the house when the owners were at the football game?
Mrs. Manfu has a flashing light on her dash - simple but gives the message to pick and easyer car. Things gettin bad in AK?
