4th gen busted rear diff question

A good friend of mine just destroyed his rear diff in his two year old Nissian Titan with only 20K on the clock and I was wondering if anyone here with a 4th gen has ever had any rear diff problems?

So what was he doing to destroy it? Pulling stumps out of the ground?

It's not very common to hear of people destroying their differentials unless they are doing something extreme.

The Dana 44 based rear axle in those trucks, is really undersized for that truck. There were fairly common failures in the first few years of production.

They went to Synthetic gear oil, and a finned aluminum diff cover in later years, as a sort of band-aid attempt to keep the heat down.

But I'd never even consider buying one, until they spec. a stronger rear axle in their trucks.

Yeah, that's a dinky little diff for that truck. I have no idea what on Earth Nissan was thinking. Just look at it, it even looks small.
