**4th gen cracked dash warranty replacement

If there's any non-stock modifications most all of the dealerships will put it back together in the original stock configuration and possibly toss the non-stock part/s in the trash bin, you may want to remove the mod and reinstall it after you get the 4 Runner back, if you give it to them with the mod you may not even get the switch back, when they did mine I had a Iphone charge cord direct wired in the center console and coming out under the bottom and tucked in between the driver's seat and console, when I got my 4 Runner back the charge cord was gone, I asked why it wasn't there and where it was and was told they are required to remove and dispose of non stock items/modifications when doing such work, I really didn't care that is wasn't there any longer because I didn't install it, it's was already there when I purchased the 4 Runner and I don't have an Iphone, but I sure gave them a piece of my mind for tossing my property into the trash instead of simply returning it to me un-installed!!!

I have heard of others saying much the same under similar circumstances at the dealerships but had forgotten about it when I dropped it off, so I wasn't really surprised when I saw it no longer there.

I haven't heard anything about throwing stuff away, that seems very shady/lazy. But just leaving all the mods and aftermarket stuff in a pile in the passenger seat probably wouldn't be out of character for most places from what I hear.

My local dealer had no problem with a double-DIN head unit.

I just posted what was told to me at the dealership I had the dash replaced at and what I read from a few reports of others, I would imagine that they don't consider a new radio a "Mod" but instead a necessary replacement, I'm sure this policy is different from dealer to dealer.

MOTHER ****ERS !!!!!

Now that I got that outta the way. Had mine installed today after ordering it in November. Of course I go to leave and realize my steering wheel controls and Bluetooth mic don't work (I have an aftermarket Pioneer 5200 head unit). "Well there were a lot of wires and our guys did they best they could - you may have to get stuff reprogrammed". Ok -- I asked if they could just memo that into my paperwork. No they can't -- Toyota isn't responsible for any aftermarket equipment. So they can do whatever they want when installing their ****-up recall and not be responsible for the vehicle. Then I'm told their "usual" protocol is to have the customer remove the aftermarket unit prior to dash install. But they were trying to accommodate me By making me now go back to my electronics place and waste time and money?? I'm also told that they've had tons of issues like this with people that have aftermarket units. Don't you think their workers should then have a better understanding of electronics if they're pulling shit apart ? Waiting to hear from the General manager now........

In short, the service writer is correct. You're lucky enough that the tech event attempted to try and rewire your set up. They are not trained in aftermarket audio electronics, they have no reason to know anything about it other than what they need to know for their job.

Frankly, I'm shocked they even touched it at all.

The way I see it, you're one of the lucky people who actually got Toyota to replace their entire dashboard free of charge. That job requires quite a bit of work in and of itself.

Yea I'm not saying the service writer isn't correct. However I think that it should definitely be addressed to everyone PRIOR to any work done. They told me AFTER THE FACT....

I am going in next week for my dash... I think I am going to remove any switching and aftermarket stuff so I dont have to deal someone not putting it back together the right way.

Got the dash done today. Dropped it off around 7:30 and they called and told me it was ready at 1:45. The tech reinstalled my LED switch that I'd installed beside the diff lock button (only one I have on the dash).

Overall, it looks great!

Dropped mine off this morning. I was trying to get in before the warranty expires at the end of the month.

I'm developing a 1" crack at the bottom right left corner of the area where the airbag is.

They denied the claim.

What are my options at this point????

(Edit: added pics)

Got denied for the dash warranty.

Pretty sure this was done by the previous owner.

But this crack wasn't there 6 months ago:

Another shot of same small crack:

Bang on your dash a ton and take it back?

But really, could be it's not large enough for them to be able to say it's the same issue (even though it most likely is). My cracks went the entire length of the dash right along the edge where it goes from horizontal to vertical (I'm sure there's an easier way to describe it, but I couldn't think of it...)

Call Toyota. Also, try another dealership

I concur, I replied to your other post in What I did today with my 4Runner topic.

This is not right the dash is only going to crack more as time goes on, raise hell and be a thorn in their side, A.K.A. "Squeaky wheel gets the grease" until they agree to replace it!!

Call Toyota Corporate and also try another dealer

Dropped mine off this morning to get my new dash after 2 months of waiting. Got a call 3 hours later saying I had to pay $136 for them to workaround my head unit (Pioneer 4800bs) which nothing was said about when I did the claim or dropped it off. They also did a "free" inspection and tried to say my rotors and pads were too small and are safety risk. They asked if I wanted to have them fix it for $900 and of course I told them not to touch a thing. I think they were just trying to get money out of me on this one as I could've easily removed my head unit and my pads are rotors were installed by myself and a family friend who's a Toyota certified master mechanic. Gonna try and see about getting that fee reduced when I go to pick it up later today. Anyone have any thoughts on it?

if you didn't authorize it, and they did it anyway. that is tough shit on them, they should have called you when they noticed or made note of it when you dropped it off.

you could say said " I would have removed it if it was a problem"

I don't see how the Pioneer is any harder to work around than the stock head unit. It's probably right around the same size. And +1 for them not having notified you about it (unless they called to ask to make sure you wanted the job done?)

It's exactly the same size, they pulled the whole aftermarket bs excuse, and I ended up just telling them to do it because cancelling and then getting it, and then removing and then waiting a month to do it again because that was he next available appointment was just too much. But I'm gonna speak to the general manager when I pick it up to see what I can do

Yeah, that's literally just a grab for money.

And someone correct me if I'm wrong, but they don't lose any money doing this job for you. IIRC Toyota pays them. So don't let them try any "we're doing this for free and losing money" BS.

they only get paid 2.2 hours to do the job so if your radio interferes with what would normally be a easy factory done job then IT WILL cost them money hence why they are charging you for dealing with your stereo.

I disassembled my whole dash to make it easier for them, im just happy that toyota is giving me a new dash, i dont want to mess with the tech, so i made his life easier and they were happy
