hey noloc, you don't need the screws. i just received my order from partznet. i was ticked because, when i opened the package, the screws that i had ordered were not there. i checked to see if i could install it without them and, sure enough, no screws needed. i have no idea why it was posted that we need screws! rest assured, all you need is the handle and two plugs.

The trick to finding the screws was to use the "Search by Factory Part Number" option, and input the part number for the screws. It seems the handle and the plugs are listed in both the collision and OEM parts catalogs, but the screws are only in the OEM catalog.
The catalog you are most likely looking at is the collision catalog (the one with the illustrations and such).

That is exactly what I was thinking. In the insurance safety test they always make note if the dummy's head made contact with anything and that handle LOOKS like it could be a place to hit in an accident. Plus I have never used one in all the trucks I've owned so I don't really miss it.

Even sitting in the passenger seat (where the handle already exists), it would be pretty tough to hit my head on the handle unless I were tossed about the cabin (not likely if you are wearing your seatbelt). There were comments earlier in the thread from people taller than myself who have done this mod and said there is plenty of clearance.
Anyway, if it's too close, I can always take it off and only be out $25.

Have you ever watched some of the crash tests? Even with seat belts the dummy's get jolted quite violently.

I'm not going to say it's impossible that one would hit their head on the handle in a crash situation, but I guess I would rather hit a rubber grip handle than to hit the headliner and the very hard metal underneath.
BTW, I love your avatar. I had nothing but boxers growing up. They are by far the coolest dogs on the face of the planet. I miss them so much.....

Would you believe it that my '05 Sport came with the handle installed on the drivers side?! I saw this thread, then looked at my 4Runner and it was already there. BTW, I took delivery of the new vehicle within 3 hours of it arriving at the dealership, so I know they didn't install it. I guess at least I'm lucky in that department, though I am also one of the ones who had the seat rattle installed at port for free too.

Thanks about the avatar. I also have only had Boxers since I was 8 y.o.. Otto, the one in the avatar is my fifth Boxer. I really do love the breed. You should get a Boxer for yourself. If you do I can point you to an amazing breeder, truly.

Unfortunately in my current living situation (apartment) combined with the fact that I travel from time to time for work, having a boxer (or any dog for that matter) is pretty much impossible. But you can bet that once I have the chance to have a dog again, it will be a boxer.
