And can anyone please shed some light onto why an 04 SE T4R's exhaust system is always twice as expensive as 05-08 anywhere you look to buy? Is there a difference in the frame or something?
 
The 4.7 V8 headers that fit the Tundra do not fit the 4Runner. We've had folks try over at 120. Clean up the x-over and put on a muffler that you like and call it a day. :)

(edit - just get the muffler and have a shop make/bend all the pipe)

#3 voting for 18" Magnaflow while retaining stock piping & resonator/tip.

Only issue I've experienced is an AWFUL sulfur smell when running a particular brand of fuel with the rear window down. I added the Magnaflow at about 2000 miles and had run just about all available brands of fuel through it before upgrading the muffler. with no smell issues at all. After the upgrade however, running Safeway fuel smelled like burnt hair and turd Ssouffl'ee. No other fuel exhibits these issues and in searching the forum for results like mine, others have experienced the sulfur smell with certain brands of fuels even with the stock exhaust.

18" Manaflow is the way to go.

Since money is an issue, you might as well keep the money in your pocket or buy something for your family......your just wasting money on that muffler swap for what the sound???.....especially if your not even changing pipes.......IMHO.

given the difficulty increasing power on an n/a engine let alone a truck engine that's not designed to go fast anyways, adding header$ to go with an exhaust is an absolute waste of spend.
there is value in the exhaust: it nets you better sound, clear and present.

headers? nothing. it won't help you outrun another stock 4runner with just an aftermarket exhaust or just a factory exhaust.

adding a magnaflow muffler will give the v8 a nice rumble.

just ignore the guy. he's acting all hard rolling in a toyota 4runner. LOL my panerai watch collection is easily worth more than his truck.

i added the magnaflow muffler ($250 for me) and it'll give you that low rumbling sound i think you will be pleased with.

I wouldn't waste your $$$ on headers on these trucks. If you want a good sound, just replace the muffler with a borla or magnaflow. I've really liked the magnaflow on my srt8.

This is the route I think I'm going to go...maybe dual exhuast with a magnaflow muffler customed from a shop.
 
4th Gen V6

Which exhaust system should I get? I want an aggressive and deep, but legal sound that is not gonna blow the bank. I've heard the Flowmaster Super 10 is a good option. Any thoughts?
 
flowmaster route

If one goes with flowmaster for our loved Runners, the 50 series is a good choice. Not to loud but aggressive when you want it to be heard.
 
I had a Flowmaster super 10 delivered the other day and I'm getting it installed on Friday. Can't wait to hear how it sounds. If anyone is looking for a stock muffler in solid condition, I'll probably have one available soon to sell.
 
hidden turn-down tip is always the best way to go over some cheesy chrome tip that looks like jimbo's muffler shop gave you the hook up.
