4th gen for 5th gen 4Runner?

The new engine boasts dual VVTi like the 2gr-fe has which boosts it to 270hp/278 Ft/Lbs.
I know by pulling the cats and having a free-flowing wxhaust you can get 280hp at the wheels out of the 2gr-fe as we did in my friend's MR2 swap. It's an animal, then again the 4runner is a heavy pig!

I wouldnt, I like the 5th gens but my 4r is paid off so I will drive it into the ground. My wifes '05 rav4 was totaled on monday so I was at the dealer looking at new ravs. They had about 4-5 3rd gen 4r on the lot. I think I will do the same and wait until the 6th gen comes out.

I wouldn't trade my 04 Limited in, for a 5th gen.
The lack of a V8 is the biggest deal killer. That V8 is so smooth and will get up and go without even thinking about it. No way I would want to go back to a V6.
Plus I just don't like the styling of the 5th Gen. I don't like how they got rid of the projector headlights, or the LED tails. The being cheap and putting a mast ant. on a $40k rig is ridiculous. Not even an locking fuel door? The interior they got rid of all the soft materials it seems. That's what I love about my 4 gen. The doors have a soft feel too them, same with the dash etc. Almost Lexus feel.
I'll just hold onto mine, and hopefully if there is a 6th Gen they bring back some of those features.

objectively, the 5th gen is superior to the 4th gen in interior space, power, refinement, period. this is the typical i got my own and i want to circle the wagons attitude you see on a lot of purchase decisions.
if you can afford it, definitely go for it. imo, the 5th gen looks a lot more rugged and true to 4r than the minivan-ish 4th gen styling. this is coming from a 4th gen v8 guy!
the reason why i'm not upgrading is no v8 and then i wouldn't upgrade to another 4R anyways. i'd be looking at the G55 AMG. until then, my 4R is plenty fine. no need to spend $30K to trade-in for the newest ride. the 4th gen v8/tranny combo is on point. plus i buy all my stuff in cash. if u gotta finance/lease cars.... then u can't afford it is my attitude. title in hand.

The only thing I like about the 5th gen is the improved V6, not that I have any complaints about my 09 V6 but hey, numbers are numbers. The transfer case is a big step back and the bulging headlights and tail lights are tough to like. Im sticking with my 4th gen til the wheels fall off.
I bet the tail lights go away with the mid generation update, add a 4.6l and I'll start looking. The 5th Gen really isn't that bad, it just needs a little aftermarket love. I still feel the interior to be cheap and don't like the cost cutting.

That's what I kind of think. I have a 2001, and I'm thinking of starting to save for a used 5th generation, and be able to snatch up the perfect one when it arises.

Actually, I sat in a 2010 today and hated it. It was nice, but there's not enough window. I feel like I get a 360 view in my 2001. The 2010 felt like a CR-V with more space inside. It was a Trail edition, though, and I really wanted to test drive it off-road and play with the special trail condition knobs.

And you preferred your 2001 to the 2010? LOL pls post pics of your 2001 in and out. the 2001 is so small and dated it's not even funny.
