4th gen fuel pump question

Probably won't solve the issues listed above but try running Techron fuel cleaner through your trucks and see what happens.

HAD asimilar experience, cleared the p0174 error code, and poured a bottle of injector cleaner in my tank, the dtc stayed off on a 120mile trip, though live readings from my scanner still showed 32 LTFT and 18 STFT, my maf readings was over 5.4. the error code promptly popped up when i restarted the car later in the day

I registered just to let yall know I was also having both the P0171 and the P0174 on my 2005 V8 and it was indeed the fuel pump.

Had propane running into my intake and noticed everything basically was going back to normal, so I figured it was starved for gas. Fuel injector cleaner didn't do anything so I checked fuel pressure and found it at 20psi.

$97 later I'm all fixed up

I dropped the fuel tanks in an '04 V6 and '03 V8 as both fuel sending units went out within a few months of each other - without a lift. The worst part was disconnecting the wiring harness above the tank before it could drop down. I literally spent 30 minutes the first time and at least 20 minutes the second time trying to undo it with one hand reaching over the top of the tank. There's probably a better way. Other than that, I spent time welding up something to replace the SST "wrench" to remove the fuel pump assembly.

I think I remember reading that there's a small access hole under the back seat and carpet so you can disconnect the wiring, etc. before dropping the tank.

This is correct but this hole is stupid small. After going through this fun process on a friend's '08, I've decided to turn this hole into an usable size and shape so that dropping the tank won't be necessary. This is a future project on the list. My landcruiser has an usable size access hole that allows me to pull out the pump/sending unit easily out of the tank w/o dropping it.

URD makes a awesome fuel pump upgrade get that comes with an external fuel filter so you can change it. It’s a really well thought out kit.

wonder if you could guide me on how you checked the fuel pressure, i bought the fuel test kit off amazon, but cant locate the service port on the fuel rail to plug it in. is there a picture or video of the port??

You should have a T-style connection for the fuel pressure kit, you'd put it inline between the fuel pump feed line to the rail and the rail (the lines on the driver's side of the engine bay).

If you don't have the adapter you should be able to find one. Hopefully that helps. Sorry I am a bit of a ghost these days.

I did end up testing the fuel pressure and it was indeed low. I bought a fuel pressure test kit on Amazon. I replaced the fuel pump and it fixed my problems.

What said above about not running your tank low is right. I used to always see how far I could get on a tank of gas, that most likely led to premature failure of the pump. I fill up more often now.

could you post the link of the actual fuel pressure test kit you bought off amazon.
the unit i bought off amazon, has a wrong sized tee, that doesnt fit the fuel feed line
