4th gen rear axle problems

I have a 2005 4runner v8 4x4 that has gone through one axle seal at 55000 miles and now at 64000 miles the dealer has stated i need a new axle bearing. I had to fight with the dealer to pay for any of the price to be fixed as it never stopped leaking after they replaced the seal under warranty at 55000miles. They are paying for the axle bearing and seal, I am paying for brakes and labor. My question is are the 4th gen axles prone to this problem? The dealer has my truck now for a week and no parts to fix because the bearing is on back order. Info on how long toyota back orders usually take? I have heard no bearing noise so i dont even know if it is actually bad or they are full of it.

How many miles?

Not too many 4th gen axle seal issues here. The 3rd gens seem to have some issues as they age.

I'm not saying you're the only one, I'm just saying it doesn't seem to be very common (yet).

Yeah its gear oil. The 4runner has 64000 miles. I am wondering why they are on back order if it does not happen often. I have owned since new and it has been well taken care of. Maybe its just to light duty for towing my 3000lbs trailer, I dont get it. They dont know when the part will come in so I am getting less happy every day. I had hoped that all the little problems like drive shaft clunk, surging at stop lights with ac on, and all the rattles i have had to fix were going to be all i had to live with for atleast 100k but i guess not. Really hoping it doesnt happen repeatedly as it seems to on 3rd gen.
