The first time I touched a welding machine was when I opened up the boxes from coastal Offroad. I did end up with that gap, I had no idea how to fix it at the time. In hindsight, the top plates need some bending upward at the corners. I don’t hate the look, just wish it had turned out a tad bit tighter. I had no issues other than that.

Thanks! I'm pretty OCD, and they met that satisfaction well haha.
So much so that I have a C4 Lo-Pro ready to install but I'm not convinced I'll love it so I'm not sure how long it will stay haha.

The 3 nuts/bolts behind your shackles... you can add 1-3 washers between the bumper and frame on the top and 2nd bolt to tilt the bumper forward and eliminate the gap. Coastal Offroad themselves suggested this and even slotted the 22mm bolt to accommodate this.

I agree with SHagood, please make a build thread. You have some unique ideas and have done some nice work. We would all love to see that rear bumper set up and build in detail.

I tried that suggestion with mine, although it was to open up the gap (or at least get a gap) in the front... the front of mine was smack up tight to the headlight trim pieces. Problem was it opened up a gap when looking down on the bumper, I could see the ground cause the bumper was standing out too far. But that is the nice thing about DIY kits, you're not stuck with what comes off the truck

If you want to sell the C4... I am in the market and will take it off your hands. I'm leaning on either the LFD hybrid or the Victory 4x4. But if you don't want that anymore, I'm buying in the next 4-6 weeks so lmk.

I'm less than 100miles from Louisville, what ballpark for the rear bumper? Less than $1,000, more than $1500??? Running a wilco myself and hate how far it sticks out

Just following up here... Thanks for all the encouragement, started a build thread and just posted a pseudo write up on the rear swing outs if anyone is interested. It's not perfect but at least shows how much of a pain in the ass it was, ha!

If you are handy with a welder at all or want to learn, the most cost effective option would be the bumper kit from Coastal Offroad. I have both front and rear bumpers from them on my 1999 Tacoma and plan on going that route for the 4runner as well.

Here was my take on a rear bumper. Its a fold down stinger style with latches that bolt through the tailgate into reinforced plate inside the door frame. The hinges are on the bumper welded to my rear frame. Decent.

Here was my take on a rear bumper. Its a fold down stinger style with latches that bolt through the tailgate into reinforced plate inside the door frame. The hinges are on the bumper welded to my rear frame. Decent.
The creator of my rear bumper made his like your due to size and weight of spare tire on his SAS Runner.

I know this thread is old... but! Just wanted to share an updated photo of my DIY rear stinger.
1. added side supports there.
2. re-created the latch points out of thicker steel.
3. Added bolts where the old latch point was- much thicker now!
2 trips to Moab (6 total days of hard terrain), 26 trails in Colorado and she's still holding very strong!
I may be re-doing the rear bumper portion of it just to make it wrap around the rear 1/4 panel plastic, but IDK for sure yet!
