Hello everyone! I'm brandnew to this forum, so I wasn't able to start a new thread to ask about this. However, being that I'm looking to purchase a used 4th gen 4Runner, this thread made the most sense for my post.
Anyway, my wife and I are expecting our second child by the end of August, and we're both currently in newer (smaller) cars that we can't easily trade out of financially. That being said, we decided to start looking at older SUVs that would fit our new family better. After some research, I narrowed my sights on the 4th Gen 4Runner, but I wanted to delve a little deeper before pulling the trigger.
I've primarily been looking at 2002-2004 models to keep the price affordable, and I'm trying to keep the mileage low (realistically). With this in mind what kinds of issues should I be looking for? I've seen people mention excess rust and whether or not the timing belt has been changed (which is kind of a given with the age). Are there any other model specific issues I should be aware of?

Welcome my friend. I'm sure if you search the forums a bit you can probably get some good answers. I'll try and help a little. The 4th gen T4R doesn't start until 2003, so a 2002 is a 3rd gen T4R btw. We have a 2004 V8 4wd and really enjoy it. I hear the V8s are practically bulletproof. I have rust issues, but it's because the truck came from the North and wasn't cleaned properly. I've had a few issues (power-steering rack, wheel bearing and axles) to fix. I'm sure the off-roading did not help these issues though. Honestly, we really enjoy this vehicle. Toyota makes great automobiles. I think you'll enjoy the 4th gen if you get one. The issues you mentioned definitely don't discourage me. As vehicles get older they're going to see a lot of those very repairs, so it's good to know one is in it for the long haul. chris6152011

Have a set of 17 inch sport rims off of my 2007 for sale. 4 of them for $330. They are in good condition with very little road grime or curb rash. One center cap does not have the Toyota emblem, other than that, no issues.
Wheels located in Knoxville, TN. (PM if interested or if more pictures are wanted.) **Prefer for local pick up, as shipping will be expensive and will be the buyers responsibility for payment. I do however have boxes I could ship them in.**

For sale: 2007 4th gen 4runner grill painted satin black located in Knoxville, TN. ($80). Grill is in good condition, originally was a smoked chrome sport grill until I painted it satin black. All brackets are intact and there is nothing wrong with the grill.
-Does not include the rubber piece that surrounds the grill and also does not include the hood latch, only the grill.

set of 5 4th gen limited wheels with 4 Firestone Destination 265/60/r18 with decent tread life left and Bridgestone Dueller unused on the spare. Previous owner never did a 5 tire rotation so the spare still has the chalk lines and spare wheel has aged a bit worse than the other 4 wheels. Wear on the 4 Firestones is very even
