Ended up getting another set when I bought a new steering wheel. I think these originally came off a Tacoma because the lights are little more reddish, but still orange.
I’ve used these with a scion radio that had Bluetooth capability and they work as you imagine, and currently using with an aftermarket radio interface system, I was able to cue up a lot of customization.

Can these be installed without removing the steering wheel? Also, I assume these can be used on an SR5 wheel?

Yes. They can even be installed on a steering wheel that doesn’t have controls. You’ll just need to either change out the airbag cover, or carefully cut the cover with a Dremel, which I’ve done on an older 4runner which came out great. But if you already have the right airbag cover it’s really easy.
1. Disconnect the battery for safety.
2. Pry open the plastic covers on each side of the steering wheel, and there’s a torx screw in there. Unscrew both sides. They don’t come out all the way, just slide out a bit.
3. Lift up the airbag and rest it on the top of the wheel. You don’t even have to disconnect the airbag if you don’t want to.
4. There’s a philips screw holding each of your current control and blank pieces. Unscrew those.
5. Disconnect the 3 harness points, in the clockspring, in the cruise control, and there’s a little ground that goes to the airbag.
6. Pull out your current ones and put your new ones in.
7. The only thing different about reversing all the steps for the swap, is the ribbon cable connecting the 2 controls. It has a little clip. That clip snaps on a little lip along its path across the wheel. And when you plug in the main harness into the clockspring, that slides left and right a bit, so just make sure you center it up.
It’s about a 30 min job including a 15-20 min break.

Hmmmm.... Didn't know you have to switch or cut the air bag cover. I will research a bit more. Was mostly interested because I am installing a new headunit. Maybe someone has a Sport wheel they want to sell. :biggrin1:

Yeah, no worries. But it’s not the steering wheel. Those are universal. It’s just the cover that goes on the airbag.

But..the Sport wheel is leather!
eep:I'll look for the cover and see how cheap they go for compared to a complete wheel.

I have a Sport Edition wheel I'd be willing to sell . . . Leather and in good condition. (I got a Trail Edition wheel) Then you'd just need the airbag.

Are the Sport Edition and Trail Edition wheels thicker than the stock SR5?
When I drive my Camry and then get in the 4Runner the wheel feels very skinny. I was starting to wonder if I picked up a Camry wheel at the salvage yard would it fit.

Camry wheels certainly will not fit, they are a 5 lug pattern vs the 4Runner being a 6 lug.
I suppose you could spend more money and get adapters, but aftermarket wheels would be a better option at that point.

Sounds about right. That being said the previous owner of my 4Runner had a Sienna wood steering wheel that he gave me too (he was a tech at a dealer). It feels like its the same thickness as the 4Runner.
I'd bet if the airbag pattern is the same that the Camry wheel would work just fine, most manufacturers use a similar spline pattern on similar model year vehicles.

My truck is still in the shop for further diagnosis so in the mean time I am looking at different things I might like to replace, a wish list I suppose.
I find the 4Runner steering wheel thin, so my options are to replace it or put a cover on it. Yetix seems to have changed a couple of times so I was hoping he might have an opinion on the thickness. He has chosen the trail wheel but I don't know his reason for choosing it over the leather.
Probably going to be listing my 4th gen for sale sometime in the near future. Posting it here first.
Ton of stuff on this truck: lift, wheels/tires, armor (bumper, skids, sliders), snorkel, roof rack (not pictured), drawer system / sleeping platform, etc etc etc etc etc. Would make a great adventure rig or even a daily driver...doesn't need anything to be either.
If anyone is interested give me a shout.

I do have the trail wheel which I switched to because I liked the perforated leather on it. It just feels better to me. That said, it's the same thickness.
I have seen a couple of threads on here where guys have used 5th Gen or Tacoma steering wheels. Those are most definitely thicker. This is one thread I found: LINK
3rd Row Seats
Selling my 4th gen (04) 3rd row seats off my SR5. Seats are in pretty good condition. They bracket into the side of the rear compartment (you can see in the first photo on the left the cover plate and on the right the position is right behind the cup holder) and then have a minor bracket built into the floor under the seat providing stability. Seats can fold down when not in use or are easily able to be taken out for storage/space. I'm not entirely sure what kind of fab job would need to be done for 4runners that didn't already come with the same 3rd row capabilities. Pm if interested and I can take pics of the brackets and send your way. Priced at $450, buyer pays shipping (always willing to negotiate on price, especially when the wife is pregnant and is wanting to make space in the house).

Last call for free used front & rear stab bar bushings & brackets. Figured with so many people having rust issues that someone might be able to use at least the brackets.
