4th Gen Suspension Options/FAQ

I was wondering if anyone could give me a ball park idea of how much it is (or how much you paid) to have a 3/2 lift/level kit installed on your truck, along with rims and tires? I'm planning on getthing these things in a couple months and just trying to get a good idea of how much everything will be. Thanks! =)

120 for mount and balance. 75 alignment. around 500 for daystar for product and install.

Thanks Momo! That sounds about what we were thinking. Guess we won't know for sure till we do it, but I hope it's not much more than that. =\

P/N for FJC Springs?

Does anyone have the part number for the FJ Cruiser 4x4 front coils? I was able to find this, but I can't tell if it's 4x4 or 4x2:

48132 SPRING, FRONT COIL, LH 48131-35551
48131 SPRING, FRONT COIL, RH 48131-35541
Your Toyota: FJ CRUISER 2008
Applied Filters: ATM GSJ15L-GKASKA

Also should I go with OEM Toyota or the Moog/Raybestos/AC Delco options from Rock Auto? OEM Toyota is going to be a bit more expensive, but not prohibitively so if they're better quality.

Thanks.

OK, I found out that the GSJ15L is the 4WD, the GSJ10L is 4x2. I still would like to know the answer to the 2nd question. Thanks!

Not too familiar with the Moogs, don't know how they compare. Most pick up used OEM coils, typically you can find them for around $100 a set.

Yeah, Craigslist came up empty and Ebay was thin as well. It's such a big hassle I'd rather just pay retail and get it done. Toyota Parts Warehouse is $171 shipped for OEM, and RockAuto would be about half of that for Moog, and Raybestos and Rockwell coming in at $90-$100.

Note that this is for fronts only. If I feel like I need to do the rears I can do that at a later time. I'm trying to reduce the nose-dive when I brake and maybe suck out a little bit of the factory rake.

A little Bilstein / FJ Spring Advice

Hey all,
I am relatively new to the T4R world, purchasing a 2005 SR5 4WD V-6 about a year ago to replace a gas guzzling Z-71 Suburban. My 4Runner is bone stock with a little over 100,000 miles on the clock.
I have been a lurker here on the forum for a while and have decided it is time to "modify" just a little bit.
I need a little advice and/or input please...... I'm in my 40's with two teenage kids so lots of toy money is not in the budget. I am fortunate to have a company car but still drive the 4Runner an average of about a thousand miles a month..... kids activities, roadtrips, weekend camping, trips to hunting camp, vacations, etc.
For my 4Runner I recently purchased a set of FJ Cruiser 8-hole wheels and a set of FJ OEM coils. My thoughts are to purchase a set of Bilstein 5100's and hopefully lift / level this thing out. I have read the forums until I have confused myself with all the available options. I don't really want to use lift spacers unless it is really needed.
I want to go ahead and have the new tires mounted and ready for the install when I add the shocks/springs.
My main questions are:
1) For a near level appearance, what setting should I use on the front Bilsteins?
2) With the FJ Coils and Bilsteins, what max tire size should I be able to use without ANY trimming? (I'm hoping for 265/70/17 GY Duratrac loadrange C)
3) Is there anything else I should consider?
I dont want to do these minor mods and then come to realize I also need UCA's, or Diff-Drop, or 1 inch spacers, or ???????

Thank you in advance for your input.

1-middle setting on the front 5100's.
2-265-70-17 will it no trimming. I went with the 255-75-17 as I like the tall skinny look. Also slightly bigger than the 265-70-17.
3-you don't need UCA or diff spacers with what you mentioned. Wheel spacers are preference... But if you go wide tires you use wheel spacers to clear the UCA, but many times with wheel spacers you need to trim or push the front fender liner forward since the tire will hit when the steering wheel is turned.

1. The fj coils should give you approx 1" front and 1/2" rear lift. I would probably go with the second notch on the 5100s, it gives .85" lift. This would get rid of over an inch of rake but still have some left so you're not nose high when youre loaded down. You could do the third notch for 1.75" lift, but that would be a little to much in my opinion.

2. I think you could do the 265/70/17 Duratracs, but I won't guarantee no trimming. IF trimming is needed, it will be very, very minor.

3. Nothing else to consider for a basic suspension upgrade/lift. UCAs, diff drop, etc won't be needed.

If i were to do the daystar 2.5/1.5 spacer lift, will i need to get the UCAs to counter any limited downtravel/alignment? Also im guessing rear shocks arent necessary since so many people do it and never mention rear shocks.

Im sure this is redundant but just going over last minute details.

Ucas wouldn't be required unless you're above 3" lift. Longer rear shocks would help you gain back some down travel that is lost but not a must have.

sweet. That pretty much decides it. Ill probably get Bilstein struts and rear spacers and shocks. Id buy the bilstein full kit on toytec but i dont really want new springs. Im afraid they're going to be too stiff for my liking and i really like the factory ride.

Bilstein Price

Shock Warehouse has the Bilstein 5100's for $375.32 set of 4 w/ Free Shipping. Anyone know of a better deal?
Some other members had mentioned AJUSA.com, I wasn't able to locate the rears on their site and their prices were higher than shock warehouse.

Thanks again!

Hi,

Is the Daystar 1" Budget Boost really a 1" lift or more like 2" net lift? If I went with this and left the rear suspension stock, will I be able to run 265/70-17s without rubbing problems (targeting Goodyear Silent Armor for a tire choice)? I have an '04 4x4 V8 w/ XREAS.

Thanks!

Should give you 2" of lift up front, and should b able to fit the Goodyear SA' s in 265-70-17 with no issues. As I understand, this should set you at perfectly level. If you ever decide you want a bit of rake back, it's very easy to add to the rear.

If you're happy with the factory ride in the rear, the spacers are definitely the way to go as long as you don't plan to add additional weight such as a bumper.

For some reason Bilstein no longer lists the 5100's for the 4th gen 4runner. For this reason, AJUSA no longer lists them. I looked them up by part number, and it's now showing up under the 5th gen.

The Daystar budget boost is a 1" spacer which will give you 2" total lift. You should be fine with those tires. IMO this will look a little too high in the front with stock rear, but some like it (it's all personal preference).

Finally ordered the Daystar kit. So now my question is with alignment, i've read time and time over to make sure to tell them to get the toe as far out as possible when aligning?

I will be taking it to my friend whose a tech at Toyota so i just want to make sure i tell him correctly so i dont have to do it twice.

you'll want camber and toe at zero, and caster and at 2 degree's can't remember off hand if thats postive or negative I'm sure someone else will post up..
