Are 2012 FJ Springs/Coils Compatible with T4R

I have found a 2012 FJ Cruiser owners selling Springs and Coils. They springs are Stock FJ Trails Team using Bilstein 4851-OW060 and Bilstein 4853C-OW040s. Are they compatible with my 2009 T4R and what kind of lift would you estimate if they are compatible?

The coils would fit on your stock shocks. If you wanted to use the fj shocks, some minor modifications will be required. On the front you have to grind down the lower shock, its too wide for the mount on the 4runner.. On the rear, the mount has to be drilled out to fit the fj shocks. Shocks from a 2007-2009 fj would be a direct fit and wouldn't require these modifications. Lift amounts would be approx 1/2" front and 1/4" rear.

Ark Swamp Rider - Thanks for your help. After reviewing options with the local 4x4 mechanic, I decided to go with Toytec Ultimate Kit and Spidertrax wheel spacers. The local mechanic knows the trails and hazards and recommended a package with Bilstein 5100 adjustables or more expensive King/Rancho kits. The Toytec Ultimate are 5100s modified to be variable with spanner wrenches, so we can fine tune the front-end or be prepared for future upgrades (winch). I will update you once I give it a test drive.

Good post but you missed OME 883s for the front to level the vehicle. 1 1/2" lift and are good paired with OME 885E to keep the same rake look but increase lift overall 1 1/2"

Ok so I'm a new T4R driver with a few questions. I drive a 2009 Sport Edition. Right now it's completely stock (tires are Toyos but still the same size as stock). I want a bit more clearance and the ability to fit a bigger tire. I like the way the XREAS system drives, and I can't see myself driving anything that will take advantage of the benefits of aftermarket shocks/coils. I'm thinking about a 3/2 spacer lift because it's cheap and will give me my desired clearance. I mostly want clearance for snow driving and some relatively mellow trail driving.

Is there actually a night-and-day difference between the stock XREAS and Blistein or OME stuff? As in, do aftermarket shocks and coils give more travel and flex than stock?

Would I be able to go on harsher terrain with upgraded shocks/coils compared to the stock system or would it just seem smoother?

Am I better off getting a spacer lift and some recovery gear/rock sliders than getting upgraded coils/shocks?

I'm a new user so if I should make a separate thread for this let me know. Thanks!

Based on the first part, I'd suggest either a 3/2 lift or even better IMO would be Daystar spacers + OEM FJ coils. With a v8 you could do the Daystar 2.5/1.2 or with a v6 you could buy the Budget Boost front spacer (2" lift) and 1.5" rear spacer. The FJ coils provide approx 1/2" more lift on the v6 which is the reason for the different spacer suggestions.

You do gain some flex and travel with aftermarket setups, but the XREAS system doesn't do too bad. I personally wouldn't swap out XREAS based on the info you provided unless you're over 75k miles.

I apologize if this question has been answered before but I have not found the answer and just want to clarify before making a mistake. I purchased the Toytec front lift kit - Toytec/Bilstein height adjustable coilovers - Toytec Lifts: Toyota Lift Kits: FJ Cruiser Lift Kits, Tacoma Lift Kits, Tundra Lift Kits, 4 Runner Lift Kits, Sequoia Lift Kits, Toyota Truck Lift Kits

The website says that 'Preset at 3" Lift Adjustable with C Clip for additional weight.'

I am kind of confused because I received the coil and the 'C Clip/Perch' is all the way on the bottom. I had coilovers on my previous car and the lower the perch, the lower the car is dumped... Wouldn't it be the same for the Toytec kit as well?

I am attaching a picture of where the 'C Clip' is currently at. It's currently at #1 which is the lowest perch. Is this considered the 'highest setting'?

Is this the correct setting according to the picture: #1 = 3", #2 = 1.85", #3 = 0.85, #4 =0

I'll take a swag at an answer, The lift you will get from that kit is due to a longer spring. With it set at the current setting you should get the advertized lift. If you were to use the same shock with say the original 4runner springs, you would need to utilize a higher setting.

Fj/4runner suspension

I'm new to this suspension lift thing and ive been searching for lift kits for my 4runner. I was on toytec and it was saying something like I could use an fj lift kit on my 4runner. Is this true?

To a point, yes. Most lifts are compatible with both. The larger bracket lifts are not compatible though. All the ones Toytec sells should work.

I found a Tuff Country fj lift kit online, on amazon to be exact. Tuff Country 52000 is the lift kit I found. All the pieces look like every other 4runner lift kit I've found online. Will this lift kit work with my 4tunner??

Everything should fit...only exception may be the shocks. Shocks for a 2007-2009 FJ will fit. Shocks for a 2010 and newer FJ require some minor modifications to the 4runner in order to make them fit. I'm personally not a fan of that kit for the price. I'd go with something like the Daystar 2.5/1.5, Toytec 3/2 spacer kit, or even Bilstein 5100's + Daystar 1.5" rear spacers.

I have FJ Springs and going with 5100's. If I set the the 5100's to the 1.75 setting will I need any spacers in the rear at all? I want it to be level and ditch the rake and the X reas bounce over bumps.

That's probably going to be a little high in the front, expect 2.25" front and .25-.5" in the rear. You can do some measuring and see what you think.
