4th Gen Suspension Options/FAQ

Spacer lifts are fine for mild off road use. Spacers will lift your rig and give you more clearance. The limitation is that they do not provide any additional flex, as do aftermarket options.

The 5100's are longer than stock shocks so you have better flex and more travel which means better performance off road.

If you go with the 5100's, just get the ones for the 2003-2009 4runner. The front will be adjustable from 0"-2.5" lift. For a low budget setup, I'd go with the 5100's, fronts set at 2.5", and a Daystar 1.5" rear spacer. This setup should run under $400.

If you want closer to 3" lift, consider adding FJ coils. You could also add a small top plate spacer, such as the 1/4" spacer Toytec sells.

I've ordered from all these companies before, no complaints. You may be able to find them cheaper elsewhere, but these have very good prices and I know they're legit.

Daystar 1.5" spacer:

1/4" spacer:

so i just need a pair of 5100s for the front and a daystar 1.5 kit for the rear, that only like 240 bucks... and i can do the work myself.

I would advise getting the rear 5100s as well if you were going to go that route.

Would I still need the daystar kit for the rear, maybe i misunderstood u, u said 5100s at 2.5" for front and daystar for rear, if I need 5100s for rear, what do they get set to.

Only the front 5100s are adjustable to provide lift. The rear 5100s are longer than stock to accommodate the lift, but they do not actually provide any lift. This is why the spacer is needed on the rear.

I'm a total noob at this. Just purchased a 2006 sport edition. I want to level/lift 2.5" I'm looking at a kit from Daystar, 2.5" front and 1.5" rear. Will I need anything else like new UCA's? I do minimal off road driving. Thanks for your help!

you should be fine just installing the daystar kit by itself. Should be perfect for what you want.

The spacer kit should be all you need. You'll be fine with the stock UCAs.

What about a steering stabilizer or something like that, I drive a lot on the highway. If recommended can someone recommend a good one?
Thanks again

Be careful with xreas and good luck! Post pics when done.

I don't know of anyone running them or any reason they're needed. A spacer lift doesn't require anything special.

+1, good advice! If a shop is doing the install, make sure they are aware of the system and know not to disconnect it.

I'm doing the install with a mechanic friend for Lexus. Anyone know of a good write up of an install I can print out?

There a few that I found useful in the original post. I prefer Galactic_04's method for the front, it's the easiest I've done. The rear is pretty much the same. You shouldn't need to unbolt the panhard bar on the rear, although some install guides have you do it.

I used Galactic_04's write-up as a basis for installing my OME front coils. I found it very helpful. If you loosen the eccentric bolts, you've got tons of room for installing the shock, definitely a much easier method. Another benefit of this method is that you do not have to separate the ball joint.
Other write-ups I've used/referenced (these are more targeted towards spacers, but process is very similar for lift coils):

Daystar Install By Bulldog

OME Install-no spring compressor method

Hey Ark needing some clarification on the Fjs , as I'm looking at other 4r with these everyone has done the daystar or 1/4 " spacer on drivers side rear . Aren't the fronts color coded so the driver side is leveled out ? If you don't need to level it out this way or not ? Or is it just the eyeball test to see if level ? Does this make sense ? Does it need the 1 1/2 rear lift or not ? Also saw some have just used only the 1 spacer on drivers side .

Spacer kit will work just fine.

The fronts are color coded and side specific. As far as I know, the rear coils aren't. The front coils will get the front pretty close to level, but the rear tends to sit lower on the driver side due to the weight of the gas tank. Adding the 1.5" spacer on just the driver side rear helps to offset this.

what kind of spacer would i need with the daystar 2.5" / 1.5" ? Sorry for all the noob questions.

There's nothing you need outside of the Daystar 2.5/1.5 kit. The Daystar lift is called a spacer lift because it uses a spacer on top of the front coilover assembly and rear coils to provide lift. When we say spacer it's just in reference to the Daystar (or other similar) lifts.
