4th Gen Suspension Options/FAQ

Ark - you have proven to be one of the most knowledgeable members on here... I'm praying you have the answer. I've searched endlessly looking for my answer, but it has yet to be confirmed. What are your thoughts on the below? (I actually posted what you see below on the Toyota120 website.) Sorry to any T4R members who keep seeing my posts popping up on the subject... I think this is the 4th thread I've commented on with these questions.

I’m looking at a set of wheels that are 17x9” and can either get 0, or +18 for the offset and want to up-size to 265-70-17’s. Math on that should be 5 and 5.71” backspace respectively, according to my calcs. Right now I have stock SR5 17x7.5 +30 (5.43 backspace) wheels, a 2/1 lift, and stock 265-65-17 tires.

I know I might potentially need to trim the front fender piece, and/or something with the mud-flaps… But the kicker for me is that I live in Pennsylvania, and for inspection, and POLICE sake, no part of the tires can stick out even a mm past the wheel well..

The questions are this: Will the (0) offset tires cause the tires to protrude past the wheel well? Will the +18 offset hit any of the inner suspension components? I realize a couple of the threads above indicate that I would be ok with 18x9 with +18 offset, but I want more rubber, and the wheels I'm looking at (Level 8 Scorpions) seem like they might be in boarder-line almost ghetto territory if I went with an 18"...

What say you, my good man?? I'm looking to make the order from Discount Tire tomorrow, and hopefully have them by next weekend. I'm half tempted to just order the +18's because I'm confident the 0's will stick out past the wheel well. If they don't work, so-be-it... Doesn't seem like anyone has a definitive answer.

Posting from my phone, will have to look into your question further when I have access to my computer (will be tomorrow). Short response: could you go with the +18 and add wheel spacers to push them out if needed? Motorsport tech offers .5, .75, and 1" spacers. Not the "best" solution, but something to think about. I'll try to run the numbers tomorrow and maybe can tell you more.

If the above plan won't work out, I might be seeing some options from "Ultra Wheel".. Then again, that's Tire Rack and they don't carry Coopers..

Good Lord... There's thousands of wheels or there, and you have to inspect the details of each one and then decide which look you want to go with... It's enough to make your head spin...

I think their made by pro-comp shows a wheel like n their mag. Might be on their website too Stan .Just ball bustin on my 1st Sat . night beer.

They come n 3 styles machined , chrome , & black ,169$ for 1st & 3rd chrome is 236$ 17x9 what you been looking for right ?

Try plugging your numbers into this calculator. Based on what it's saying, the 0 offset will stick out 1.2" further than stock and the +18 offset will stick out .5" further. I would think the +18 would be clear with 265's. Hopefully this answers your question, or at least gives you some info to help your decision.

I'm putting on the daystar 2.5" 1.5" lift on my 06. I don't go off road much, just dirt roads, nothing extreme. What size tire should I get for my post spacer lift transformation? I don't need new tires yet but a store near me is having a great sale. Thanks

265/70R17 are popular with the daystar lift for an SR5/Sport wheel, or for the limited 18" wheel 265/65R18.

* requires removal of mud flaps and probably minor trimming
† requires trimming and may require body mount chop (click here for details on body mount chop), upper control arms, and/or increased backspacing.

Add 5 to the middle number for 16" wheels, subtract 5 for 18" wheels (265/75R16=265/70R17=265/65R18)

The above assumes you're using stock wheels and no wheel spacers. Aftermarket wheels or wheel spacers will increase rubbing, more trimming will need to be done in order to fit the listed size.
