4th Gen Suspension Options/FAQ

Can anyone give me some data driven answers on 5th gen rear springs? Are they the same specs as the FJ springs? Considering the 4runners are heavier than the FJ's one would think based on the coil thickness and length they would provide a firmer rider on 4th gens.

Thoughts?

That was my thinking on this matter as well, so long as I dont have to cut or take a blow torch to the coils :wtf:
I just purchased a set of 5100 series Billies and have decided to go with the FJ moog springs all round.

I may get a 1" cornfed rear spacer so I can set the fronts to 1.75 and that "should" get me leveled or with a slight rake. Crossing fingers it works out lol

Yea. The torching/cutting the coils... I don't have the tools to do so, and even if I did... I don't think I could bring myself to do it.

Please let me know how bad the install was for the rear once you get them on! I'm right on the fence of ordering a set :)

Will do! Got my rear shocks delivered today and the rest should be in Saturday... Still havent ordered the spacers and was hoping I could snag some metal rears from a member here but thats in the air.... I may just go without them.

I was a little apprehensive ordering the springs too but it seems that lately the rear fitment issue has been hit or miss, so I took a little gamble

but there no better than 4th gen coils. The FJ coils do have a higher spring rate so they will be stiffer

Is there data on the spring rates? I haven't found info other than this thread.

They certainly LOOK thicker in diamter which would attribute to their stiffness over 4th gen based on the picture below from the thread linked.

Sway Away 1.5" lift coils left, 5th gen middle, 4th gen right
(5th gen has one extra wind and has a thicker diameter coil)

Anything should be

I may pull one to compare. In my mind more wrap and thicker coil diameter should improve the ride over 130k mile stock coils.

an improvement from OE coils with 130k on um. Especially if youre also replacing the shocks...:llama:

Thanks! Can't wait for an update!

That's what I was thinking too since it seemed most of the issues are a few years back... haven't seen a thread recently about them fitting badly..

I'm looking into lifting my RAS 4runner and going to get the GX470 RAS to Coil conversion kit. Are there any limitations to how much I can lift it with that kit? Also, if I do a 3" lift in the back how much do I lift the front to achieve a level stance?

Anyone know much about the ride quality of this brand?? I am just looking for a quality ride since I do not do any trails. just beach sand.

I'm wondering the exact same thing. Was going to go with eibach 620lb coils and pair with the pro truck sport shocks up front. What did you find out? Did you end up going with that setup?

I have a question for the masses. I stopped by a local off-road shop to get a quote on getting my 2007 4Runner a lift/leveling kit and some new tires. I was looking at the Bilstein 5100 3" lift kit. The shop wants to see if the control arm bolts can be loosened. They mentioned something about them corroding inside the bushing sleeve. If they can't get them out, he said I'd have to opt for new arms at an additional cost. If I'd have to replace these, then I'll have to rethink the kit and go with something a more affordable.

Is it necessary to remove these bolts? The only reason I decided to do a shop as this is a daily driver and I'd like to get everything done at one time.

What are your thoughts? I'm also thinking 3" lift plus a 265/70/17 tires would make it a bit too tall for the width of the vehicle. My wife will drive this on occasion and I want her to be comfortable driving too.

He's talking about the cam bolts used for alignment on the lower control arms. Mine are seized in place, and as such, I can't get a perfect alignment. That said, they're seized in a good place, so they're not too bad. You'll still have issues with steering angle and probably caster. My caster is somehow okay. Driving wise, it can be sometimes unpredictable, but it's nothing that you can't handle. If you have your hand on the wheel, it's not going to **** you over.

You don't need to remove these to install the lift, but you need them to align. If you want to replace them, you'd have to use a sawzall on the LCA mounting bolts to chop it off, then put on new LCAs, or stamp out the bushings on your existing ones and replace (recommended, but you'd need your vehicle on a lift for a while). LCAs are not cheap new, best to buy a used set and retrofit the bushings with new OEM or polyurethanes.

That said, this was more of an issue with the earlier 4th gens. You might be fine with a 2007. Also depends on your locale, if it's in a wintery area, salt might have contributed to seizing.

If you've gotten an alignment recently with no issues, you'll be fine.

I've seen a lot of people do the FJ springs with a Daystar 2.5/1.5, or FJ springs with the 5100s, but is there a reason not to do all 3? I have FJ springs, and buying 5100s, please someone convince me whether or not to put a the body lift. My options are:
1.) FJ springs + 5100s
2.) FJ springs +5100s + Daystar 2.5/1.5 body lift
3.) FJ springs + 5100s + Daystar 1.5 leveling kit.

let me know what your thoughts are

Opinions on getting a set of Moog 81108's for the front and reusing the factory t4r springs in the rear? I just worry that the Moog's don't fit the axle well in the rear...

Do 285/70/17's require that much modification? I found a used set of Falken Wildpeaks that are 285/70/17, and I'm thinking about getting them, but don't want to cut/shop anything.

Please read and answer!

I have a 2004 T4R limited which is the v8 with 220,000 miles on it.. I will only have it for the next 3 years and I want to do something to it, but I don't want to end up having any problems with the vehicle. I am thinking that I should just do a spacer lift of 3 in the front and 2 in the back and get some bigger tires.. does this sound good? And do you think it will cause any problems considering the amount of miles? (Btw the 4runner hasn't had any problems in the past and is in good shape)
