4th Gen Suspension Options/FAQ

I'm looking at the Eibach Pro Stage 1 kit for my 2008 SR5 V6. It's stock at 180k. I'm curious if going with a taller lift will require other new components?

That’s what I have and it didn’t require anything different. Great setup btw, on and off the pavement, and their customer service is very responsive.

Hi, I'm looking for some advice or options for my 04 Sport. When I got it 3 years ago I replaced the original suspension with Bilstein 4600s but had the bad lean to the left. Added some spacers in the front and rear but its still leaning a bit. At this point since I've decided to keep the 4runner I'm considering putting in some adjustable shocks with perhaps new springs? Maybe lift it up an inch maybe inch and a half nothing too crazy hopefully fix the lean and level the truck overall.

Was gonna just get the 5100s but I see they are discontinued so now looking at the Eibach Pro E60 82 008 02 01 for the rear and E60 82 008 02 10 for the fronts since they can be adjusted 0 to 2.2. Anyone have any experience with these or any other options that wont break the bank? Was thinking of swapping out the original springs any opinions on others to use? Thanks

installed lift need help

i have bought and *mostly* installed a 3" readylift kit for my runner got new UCA's as i new i would need them and instead of running a spacer in the rear decided to get icon 3" lift springs as well as go ahead and replace all trailing arms and the track bar. WELL i got everything installed but my rear shocks are at full extension with alot of tension and travel left in the springs "i have rancho readylift 5000 shocks" any suggestions on what shocks would have more travel?

i go overlanding and offroad quite often so I want to have the travel in the rear and get my moneys worth out of the trailing arms and springs

4th Gen Fox 2 Coil Over Rebuild Denver

I was at House of Mufflers today on Evans and Jim there suggested joining the Forum as he heard of a guy in this area that rebuilds my style Fox coilovers. Any direction you all can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Sam

No rubbing or trimming!!!

After hours of reading and research I went up to Discount Tire and asked kindly if I could swap the 6 month old 265/70/17 Defenders to the E Load 285/70/17 Defender 2s.

After the 265 install I had to move the fender line up a smidge.

Jumping to 285/70s ZERO RUBBING. Even at full lock.

IÂ’m so surprised and happy. Obv these are not knobby off-road tires. Guessing thatÂ’s the big difference.

HereÂ’s my setup.

OME/Bilstein 5100 - replacing XRES (3 in lift roughly)
JBA UCAs
285/70/17 Michelin Defender 2s

Inaugural post, can't start a thread yet.

Purchasing an '08 Driftwood Pearl SR5 4x4 with around 170k on the odo. No X-REAS afaik. Currently on 16" wheels. Some dunlop tires. Upgrading from a '02 Suburban LT 1500 with 4x4 that is currently running LT265/70R17 BFG KO2 on 17" upgraded Chevy wheels. I purchased new from Costco 2 summers ago. Live in CA, driving home to WA state to pick up the new rig and drop off the old one with my parents.

Main goal is to fit these KO2s on the runner I'm getting. It's bone stock with a 2" tow hitch. And I'm getting a smoking deal from a family friend. I'll drop photos in its own thread at some point. I only have a couple days before I drive it back to CA where I live. And not a ton of cash.

My plan to accomplish this is:

1. Install daystar 2.5/1.5" spacer lift/leveling kit on 4runner at home/garage/driveway. Neighbor/dad have all tools.
2. Tire shop > remove BFG KO2s from Chevy wheels, swap onto some 2016 17" Tacoma TRD Sport wheels I found for $200 locally. Mount and alignment. *** I heard brake calipers affect fitment for these specific wheels. As far as I know they are the smaller ones on this SR5.
3. Suburban gets the Firestones from the TRD wheels mounted to the 17" Chevy rims at tire shop. Take home, mount these in garage/driveway. Sub will become resto/project car for dad.

I'm wondering should this alleviate potential rubbing on the fender liner/underneath. Or will I need spacers (Spidertrax) and if so what size? I prefer to keep the body of the truck as stock as possible with no trimming. The runner will also receive my Yakima towers, cross bars, slimshady awning plus a 2-bike Yakima tray on the tow hitch. Maybe some pod lights on the hood if we have time. Mostly cosmetic stuff with some utility. Once I get it back home in CA I plan to eventually replace/augment the spacer with a more complete and performance-oriented suspension lift and will be consulting the helpful souls on this forum.

Thoughts?

What about lower control arms? do those need to be replaced with something else?
and I heard not all upper control arms are adjustable?

driftwoodp - Congrats and welcome. You will need to do some adjustments in your front wheel wells. Nothing complicated or time-consuming. I doing suggest two things: read this post by our member J.A. then bookmark his page so all those fantastic writeups are always handy. Wait, actually 3 things - get SpiderTrax 1.25” spacers. Helps with rubbing and the wider stance looks much better.

I ran the Daystar spacers with 265/70-17 Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs for years on stock wheels no spacers without rubbing issues. I have since upgraded to a Doinsons full suspension setup and 285/70-17. I am still running stock wheels but also as suggested using Spidertrax 1.25 spacers. I offroad regularly and used a paint pen on the spacer lug nuts; I just check them regularly to make sure they are still tight, but I have not had any issues so far.

lift vs caster

I have been running OME 884s on Dobinson IMS shocks, with Dobinsons UCAs but surprisingly can barely get 3.6 degrees caster before everything gets thrown off. Is this normal for a ~2.5" lift and UCAs with 3 degrees caster?

Additionally, I've always had a bit of a gap between the washers and the outside face of the UCA bushings, but many pictures show the washers sitting flush; what would be the reason and is there need for concern?

2004 4Runner v8 suspension

Hello, I have a 2 wheel drive 04 v8 4Runner I’d like to replace the front and rear suspension while leveling the front end a bit as well. Any suggestions?

Bilstein 5100's are inexpensive and will allow you to level the front using the built in different spring perch locations on the front shock. Dobinson IMS are a little more expensive and allow front height adjust via a threaded body on the fronts which changes spring perch location, I personally have them installed.

Well, I'm going to be honest - I did not read all 284 pages of this thread. Maybe more like 30 pages :) I have noticed that the general consensus for lifting a 4Runner is: Bilstein 5100 adjustable shocks & OME springs.

What I have, ladies and gents, is a 2006 v6 SR5 RWD that won't see much action on trails and whatnot. I am wanting to lift it 2-3" for general aesthetic purposes and just for plain ol' fashioned wrench twistin'/beer drinkin' driveway fun.

I've had the vehicle for maybe 7 or 8 years now, it was originally my daily driver then turned into a sidepiece yard truck to haul stuff around and the hatch serve as an umbrella when I had something outside to do in the rain. I have since brought it back to the road and have really enjoyed putting time into it.

Long story long; what is the best bang for the buck 2-3" suspension lift that I can get? I am not too picky about ride comfort - I've had other cars with super stiff racing suspension, but I would prefer not to have to crawl over train tracks at 2mph like I did with those lol.

I have some 2 1/2" leveling spacers to install in the front, I am in the process of figuring out whether to add that to the new suspension or not. I also chopped the front fenders/front bumper to give me some additional room for larger tires (and I thought it looked cool - great how-to thread on here that I followed). I am wondering at what lift height will the upper control arms need to be upgraded/replaced, when brake lines will need to be extended, etc.

Any suggestions are appreciated - I don't have much experience with SUV's/trucks/4x4's, I have worked a lot with older foxbody mustangs, JDM cars - usually where the suspension goes down instead of up. So, a bit of a learning curve for me.

Thanks again. Also, does anyone use a forum app (iphone) for this? It would be super convenient and keep my work computer screen a little more tidy :) please advise!

Adding 21/2" spacers in front will take 21/2" of down travel from your front suspension.

2004 Sport 170K miles

Youngest son inherited from his older brother...College vehicle, but i will probably keep after he is done with it. Familiy owned since 2005 (25K) and very well maintained. I drive a 2014 Limited, but love the towing capacity of this one...will probably pair with with a small camper for retirement trips.

Looking to put small lift on it (2-3") but will most likely change the entire system out (XRES) due to not being changed in 20 years.

What are the best options for me? I would like to do the work myself (somewhat handy but can always get out of a jam by calling a mechanic buddy...LOL) with my son.
