4th Gen V6 SR5 4WD Engine Rebuild

Hey everyone,

Driving back to Denver from Utah this weekend my T4R ran low on oil without warning and wore out the rod bearings. I'm towin it back a Denver today and will be looking to either rebuild/ replace the engine or else just sell it in its current state. Anyone in the Denver area had to replace or rebuild an enginee and have a recommendation on where to take it to? Anyone have an engine they're looking to sell? Or am I better off cutting my losses and moving on? Any suggestions would be great, thanks.

Going to depend on the mileage and condition of it. Its not cheap to do so you have to weigh that option. If you have it lifted with lots of accessories and want to keep it for a long time and its in decent condition then replace the engine. If you plan to upgrade in a coupke years good luck. Most people dont want to buy a vehicle with a rebuilt or non original motor unless its dirt cheap. In that instance sell as is or part it out.

The big question is, "Why did it run low on oil?"

New engine would be fairly easy, more expense. Call your insurance and ask. This may be a covered, depends. Either way you can remove some policies off the truck too.

Pretty straight forward rebuild, cut the crank and have everything cleaned nice. The heads could have seen less oil too so it's important to check them over. The cams especially. I know of a good machinist in Colorado Springs, if you can get past his ego. Pm me.

As long as you didn't drive for too long with no or little oil, you can get a simple rebuild. Shop rate here is around 100 an hour and when I used to work at a shop, it was roughly 1500 for an OEM rebuild. My advice would be to take it into the shop with as much off as possible. Disconnect wire harness, take front end apart, do everything you can to cut cost. That way, all they have to do is yank the motor, rebuild it and throw it back in. It will save you quite a few hours of labor.
